Are you getting in your own way?

Have you ever wished you had pushed yourself just a little bit more? Reached just a little bit higher… maybe even a lot higher? How would things look if you stretched a little further out of your comfort zone to tap in to possibilities you didn’t even know you had?

The bigger the step, the greater the risk. The bolder the move, the greater the reward.

Just think about it for a minute.

You have goals, dreams…probably BIG dreams, right? And, you have a lot of things you want to do in your life.

So, what’s holding you back? What’s getting in your way? Why did you start and then not finish?

Think about it. I mean, really think.

It’s your obstacle. Your speed bump. Your fire hall pole down the rabbit hole.

Newsflash: It’s YOU.

(Why did you just flinch a little? Hmmmmmm. Maybe because you know this to be true for you.)

It comes down to this, the only thing standing in the way of what you want to do, be or have is you. So guess what? The only way to get what you want to do, be or have is to get the hell out of your own way!

I recognize this in my own life. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve created an internal power outage. Shutting myself down mentally, emotionally or physically seemed like a better option than putting in the work or worse yet, failing.

Let’s talk about a few of the things you say to yourself to convince yourself to not do “the thing,” or pursue “the dream,” or stand up for what you believe in. Otherwise know as excuses.

Excuse #1: “I don’t have time”

I call BULLSHIT! Five minutes, 10 minutes a day, or an hour a week is better than doing nothing. And who cares if it takes you longer than you thought? Enjoy the entire process and then imagine how incredible you will feel when you get to the finish line!

Psssssssst… dreams don’t have a clock on them, but our lives do. Make the most of your time now, so you don’t have regrets later.

Excuse #2: “Nobody believes in me”

And you know what? That’s okay. Thank your friends and family for their opinions and keep moving forward. The only thing that matters here is that you believe in yourself. That YOU believe in your dream. It’s your reason for doing what your doing and your passion that will fuel your motivation.

Excuse #3: “I don’t have what I need”

Money, knowledge, expertise. I get it. You think if you have a dream, you have to know and have it all. I’m here to tell you that’s not true.

First of all, the money will come. You’ll find it when you need it.

Second, this is YOUR dream, your vision, your big idea. YOU are the expert. You have all the knowledge you need right inside of you. And well, Google will give you the rest! HAHA

The resources you need are out there, all you have to do is go get them.

So, what’s your dream?

The thing you think about when you see someone else living their dream? The thing you wish you started yesterday? The thing you know if you chased it, your life would never, ever be the same?

You have one. I know you do! This dream is big, life changing and it is waiting for you.

And by the way, no dream is too big or too unrealistic. If you can dream it and you want it bad enough, you will find a way to make that dream come true… if you simply get out of your own way!

What are you waiting for? Go!

Be bold.

Be brave.

Like a beaver building its dam, build your dream. One twig at a time.

One more thing, share in the comments below something you say to convince yourself to not do, be or have what you want.

And, please share the love with anyone you know might have a dream. 😉
