What makes you feel like a Superstar?
Last week was full of love, laughter and celebration. It was my birthday and I turned 44! But just for a moment, I would like for you to think of me as a 6 year old little girl.
Picture a very bubbly, blonde curly haired little girl dressed up in clothes that would probably be fashionably illegal today. In my Mom’s high heel shoes and my older sister’s make-up and put on way to heavy because no one taught me how to put it on yet. There was no Youtube back then. 😉
Then proudly prancing along a home-made run way of bed sheets and towels, smiling from ear to ear as if I had just won a bus full of Barbies.
Jump ahead a few years to when I’m about 10 years old. If anything was cool, it was music and not just any music ya know? The Mini Pops! Come on! It was the 80s! HAHA
I knew every word to every song on that album and I dented my bed using it as a stage. I knew then it wasn’t going to be easy being a Superstar! 😉
A few more years, and though I appreciated my experience with the kids singing sensation, it was time to move on. Cindy Lauper and Michael Jackson showed up for me. My best friend and I practiced and practiced until Billy Jean WAS the one!
We then took our show to the living room where parents and their visitors could be our audience and where we felt like true stars! This type of stardom if you can call it that, continued throughout my life. It took me a very long time to figure out what it really meant.
Now that I’ve flashed my childhood briefly before you, I’d like to ask you this.
What were you doing when you were 6, 10 and 13 years old that made you feel like a Superstar? [Click to Tweet!]
What made you smile from ear to ear? What made your heart skip a beat?
This is the million dollar question when trying to figure out your passions. Ask yourself: What was it you loved to do sooooo much when you were a young child you would do it over and over and over again?
Don’t dismiss your answer immediately. It truly might surprise you. What seems to be so ridiculous and make no sense at all, may lead you down a path more fulfilling and meaningful than you ever thought possible.
For me, The answer to those questions was, well as you heard… perform. I wanted to be the centre of attention. And of course as I grew up, I went from wanting that to just knowing I would somehow be in the spotlight, I just didn’t know what that looked like.
It wasn’t until about 9 years ago I realized the real answer. That standing up, standing tall and sharing who I am with the world would change my life. And in doing so, changing the lives of many others.
Making a difference and creating positive change in people’s lives and businesses inspires me to continue living my passion. Making people think differently, dream bigger, laugh or maybe even cry is just what I am meant to do!
I am in my spotlight.
Being a Motivational Speaker makes me feel like a Superstar… maybe even a Rockstar! Whether there is one fan or one million, I love what I do and it’s what fuels the fire inside me.
Someone asked me once what my passion in life was and I could not answer them. I just said, I don’t know. I really love music, dancing and singing. I also love to cook and entertain. And of course, as the years went on things were added or maybe changed a little… I love the outdoors, camping, fishing, reading and wine… lots and lots of wine!
But it wasn’t until someone explained it to me and took me back to my childhood that it really made sense to me. How if you loved doing something as a child, you probably still do now in some form or another.
For instance, I practically blew up my easy bake oven I used it so much. Yet, growing up I wouldn’t touch a stove if I thought I was going to starve. But now, I will create and cook up the most divine dinner. I’ll even challenge myself and try new things all the time. Baking and all. Rachel Ray… look out!
And, don’t forget the wine! 😉
So, my final, key question for you is: Are you living your passion?
If you are, then you know it may not always be easy, but it’s life altering and so wonderful. If you’re not, it’s okay, maybe you don’t even know what it is yet. I didn’t for a long time. But once you do, embrace it and allow it into your life with love and then celebrate!
(After all, there’s nothing’ like a lot of passion and a little wine. Wait!…a little passion and a LOT of wine! 😉 )
