BLK INK seeks to elevate the work of self-published BIPOC authors. Traditional publishing is a largely white-dominated field and can be hard to penetrate as a writer of color. With Self-Published Spotlights, BLK INK hopes to shed light on the importance of self-publishing to marginalized writing communities.

Every month we will feature an interview with a self-published author to discuss their work, their writing process, and the impact self-publishing has had on them.

Criteria:

  1. Authors must also be Medium members. (We will tag all authors on Medium in Spotlight stories.)
  2. Works must currently be available for readers to purchase or access. No pre-published stories.
  3. We prioritize high quality work — if we see that you stories are full of typos, egregious grammar mistakes, or generally lack professionalism you will not be considered.

If you are an author who would like to be considered for a spotlight, please fill out the following form:

If you are selected for a Spotlight, you will receive an email with follow-up information and a request for your book’s cover image and an author headshot for the article.

Spotlights will be included in our monthly newsletter and on our homepage.

We look forward to supporting your work!
