Happy Thursday! The NAACP has issued a travel advisory for black travelers flying with American Airlines, citing “a pattern of disturbing incidents reported by African-Americans…” The advisory is a stunning move for an organization that has, until recently, tried to steer clear of these kinds of fights. With a new national president committed to pursuing more political causes, there will likely be more resistance from the nation’s oldest Civil Rights group on the way.

Read Jamelle Bouie’s really good op-ed on the long history of America’s contempt of black soldiers. Here’s an excerpt from the piece:

There’s little chance that Donald Trump knows this history of hostility and disrespect, even as he evokes it with his conduct toward Myeshia Johnson. The dynamic seems to capture Trump’s broader relationship to history. He is untethered from any knowledge of America’s past, from any grappling with the pain and injustice that shapes and defines much of this country’s history. Despite this, he taps again and again into its most tumultuous currents. With his cheap demagoguery and political clumsiness, Trump has been a disruptive force, not to “Make America Great Again,” but to inflame old tensions and open even older wounds.

Will the NFL survive if it can’t embrace the culture that keeps it afloat? David Dennis over at The Undefeated has the 🔥🔥🔥 piece on this question. This is a good question, though! Why is it that NBA players have had more liberty (oooooh ‘liberty’ we need to unpack that) to speak about the issues they care about?

DNC Chair Tom Perez: Trump ‘most dangerous’ president ever…..understatement. But also, what’s up with tossing the ‘dangerous president’ superlative around as if the American Presidents living down slavery row (1789–1859) did not exist? Those were pretty dangerous times, no?

Okay, WOW! NPR is running a three-part series titled “Raising Kings: A Year of Love and Struggle at Ron Brown College Prep” and Part 2: Lifting Students Up Without Lowering the Bar is like really good! #EducationWeek

Damn, that was quick! A fresh Economist-YouGov poll finds that a majority of democrats view George W. Bush favorably. So much for wrecking the country and leaving black people to drown in an American city. Interesting. Meanwhile, W is raising money for the very racist Republican Ed Gillespie in the Virginia governor’s race. Now go hug on that!

All the side-eyes to the NPR poll showing a majority of white Americans (55 percent) saying they feel discriminated against. “If you apply for a job, they seem to give the blacks the first crack at it,” Mr. Tim from Ohio said. If 55 % of whites say they feel ‘discriminated’ against but Trump only received 44 % of the popular vote…….then……interesting. Now, 92% blacks say they feel discriminated against. Read Gene Demby’s analysis.

Saving O’Care is going to save $4 billion, a new CBO score has found. But for some strange *cough they hate Obama *cough reason, the GOP suddenly doesn’t care about deficit reduction. You’re not going to hear a whisper from GOP but they actually don’t want anything done on O’Care before 2018. Too risky. When old white people in Eureka, Missouri start paying higher premiums for insurance, that coveted GOP house majority might be in peril.

Basically, all men are trash! George H.W. Bush has apologized to actress Heather Lind after she accused him of sexually assaulting her with at a photo-op. WITH BARBARA BY HIS SIDE!

Lawsuits matter! A handful of legal challenges to Trump’s ‘voter fraud’ commission have pretty much halted that commission’s work. This is all that one can hope for considering the entire operation is built on cooked up empirical data. Still, according to documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, the commission has been in conversation with the Social Security Administration to obtain information needed to identify ‘illegal’ voters.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
