The PDCA Cycle in Context of ISO14001 — Bloberg

The basis for the approach underlying the EMS is founded on the concept Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA).

The Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) model is an iterative process used by organizations to achieve continual improvement. The PDCA model involves systematically testing possible solutions, assessing the results, and implementing the ones that are shown to work.

At the heart of the PDCA approach is leadership. The importance of leadership at all levels, particularly by Top Management, cannot be underestimated to operate an EMS effectively and successfully, to achieve performance levels required and generate continual improvement.

The PDCA model can be applied to an EMS and to each of its individual elements. The graphics above and below show how the PDCA model is applied to the EMS as a whole.
