We can’t thank each and every one of you enough for making Blocfest a resounding success. To all the dedicated speakers, panelists, sponsors, media partners, MCs, venue staff, and attendees — we salute you!

This article serves as a little round-up of the festivities, but first, here is a message from the CEO of Blockchain Asia, and mastermind behind Blocfest: Hway Gwei.

Hway Gwei (CEO, Blockchain Asia and organiser of Blocfest)

“We’re very encouraged by the positive feedback from the conference delegates, speakers and sponsors from different countries on topics discussed and content curated. We will continue to do what’s necessary to engage the right partners, regulators, researchers to further grow the blockchain community with adequate discussions and collaborations.”

— Hway Gwei, (CEO, Blockchain Asia).

Southeast Asia’s International Blockchain Event.

Blocfest was held over 2 days on the 27–28 September 2018, at the prestigious ballrooms of The Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.

The event, hosted by Blockchain Asia, comprised of over 40 speakers, panelists and presenters from across the globe. Blocfest looked beyond the hype surrounding blockchain, and instead focused on how the technology can be implemented to further improve on the infrastructural inefficiencies in today’s technologically-driven world.

Blocfest brought together a whole host of regional and international blockchain companies, business owners, government officials and notable academics.

The likes of Fusion, NEM, WaBi, Zilla, ProximaX, Zcoin, The Litecoin Foundation, Kommerce and many more were in attendance, many of whom gave thought-provoking presentations. Above all, doorways were opened to conversations about how we can further drive real adoption, see eye-to-eye with regulators, and work hand-in-hand with the developers who are driving technological innovations in the field.

The agenda was carved out into 2 tracks: Enterprise and Academic/Regulatory, but attendees also had the opportunity to learn from a world’s first Blockchain Forensics Summit, a first-of-its-kind summit in Asia featuring thought leaders and experts in blockchain forensics. Workshops on how to build your own smart contract, telegram bots, and hashgraph were also inclusive of the Blocfest 2-day experience, which attendees thoroughly enjoyed.

Blocfest focused on strengthening the community and bringing the regions major players and enthusiasts together, regardless of one’s expertise or pre-existing knowledge of blockchain.

One attendee commented:

“I previously had no idea how blockchain could be applied to so many fields. My knowledge was very limited to just cryptocurrencies, so Blocfest helped me to understand how the technology could be applied to a wide range of business applications, particularly in regards to blockchain helping processes become more efficient and transparent.”

What People Had To Say

TM Lee (Cofounder, CoinGecko)

“The content itself has been very educational which is fantastic… that can be quite rare across many conferences. The audiences were very targeted, in that they comprised of people who actually wanted to learn and understand the space better. From what I’ve heard from other people, everyone in the audience has loved it. The panels have been great as well, all the panelists come from diverse backgrounds and projects so they share different viewpoints which means you get a lot more out of the sessions.”

— Speaker: TM Lee, (CEO, CoinGecko).

Alexander Busarov (Co-founder, Wabi, Walimai)

“What I really liked was that the attendees at Blocfest were very open-minded and receptive to new ideas. The quality of the speakers and panelists was also very high. I was actually quite surprised to see quite a number of people from the government, which says something about the event, but perhaps also about the regulatory attitudes of Malaysia. I’ve been able to meet people from traditional stock exchanges and crypto exchanges which I thought was pretty cool too. It was a very successful event and I am proud to have been a part of it. Thanks Blocfest!”

— Speaker: Alex Busarov (Co-Founder, WaBi, Walimai)

Ross Krasner (CEO, Ryu Coin)

“I’ve really enjoyed the conference — there have been a wide range of speakers who have had very tangible and actionable advice, and provided valuable insight into the blockchain industry. I particularly enjoyed Stephen Chia’s presentation about the NEM Protocol. I was able to connect with both entrepreneurs, angel investors, potential partners as well as just other knowledgeable enthusiasts. Blocfest has given me insight into other areas of the blockchain industry I was previously unaware of.”

— Speaker: Ross Krasner (CEO, Ryu Coin)

John Sidoli (Head of Institutional Sales, Sinegy Technologies)

“The schedule you put on was really good. I’ve spent most of my time in the Enterprise Track at Blocfest, and there has been a really nice variation of speakers. A lot of conferences these days have descended into ICO mania — just people pitching ICOs. It’s been great that at Blocfest, the speakers focused on presenting quality content instead of simply selling their products. I also really appreciated that the presenters were very open and took the initiative to approach and network with you.”

— Attendee: John Sidoli (Head of Institutional Sales, Sinegy Technologies)

Blocfest has always been about you, the community, and the technology.

This week, we feel like we’ve created something truly special for the blockchain community here, and through our efforts we will continue in our mission to bring you the very best blockchain conference experience in Southeast Asia.

We hope that you enjoyed the experience and were able to take away something valuable from the conference. Keep your eyes peeled for updates from us, as this is just the beginning…

Best regards,

The Blocfest Team
