Today, we at Block Bastards present you CubiX Fragment, a “3D Cube Puzzle Game” game developed by Lushkin Games. CubiX is already available at games.qudo.io during the QUDO alpha phase (running on a test net) for you to start having fun solving CubiX’s amazing puzzles.

We at Block Bastards already went crazy with some of the CubiX levels! It is not as easy as it seems when you first start playing.

This week, we had the pleasure to interview Roman Lushkin , Founder & Game Developer of CubiX Fragment, developed by Lushkin Games.

Roman Lushkin

1- When did you start developing games and what made you start?

I started developing video games during my Masters in Computer Science studies.

After high school, I went to computer science school. I have always loved playing video games and this was the perfect place to go to the other side of the mirror.

Until then I really enjoyed playing, but now I had the opportunity to create. It all started from there.

During my 5 years of study I made a few games, either personally or for campus projects with different partners, and on different technologies.

At the end of my studies, I moved into another area of IT (Development of FrontEnd / BackEnd / Mobile solutions) at the professional level. However, I continued to develop games in my spare time, although it was much lower now.

I have come to realize how difficult it is to be an indie game developer. Since we have to insure in all areas which are generally distributed among several members of a team, but I went back to Unity and after several months working on my project (during lunch breaks, or after work), I was finally able to release CubiX Fragment.

2- What kind of game is CubiX Fragment?

Cubix Fragment is a 3D Platform Puzzle game, in which the player must solve puzzles by moving a cube: “CubiX” on different tiles.

The goal is to collect all the fragments and unlock a path to the finish tile.

CubiX is not an ordinary cube, as it can mimic the appearance of some tiles when passed over them.

The player will face different types of tiles, which will sometimes require him to use ingenuity to be able to unlock certain paths.

The game targets all types of players. You can appreciate it for its puzzle aspect, without caring about the factor of time and number of moves, just trying to complete the levels.

Or on the other hand, you can take advantage of its re-playability and try to finish each level by putting in as little time as possible or by moving as little as possible, which will allow you to obtain bonus rewards.

Oh and didn’t I tell you? The cube is customizable. It is possible to modify its skins by unlocking them in-game with the money you win at the end of each level.

3- Where did the idea of creating CubiX Fragment come from?

To be honest, before working on CubiX, I made several 3D game prototypes. I absolutely wanted to make one that is in 3D (poor me 😊), but the more I moved forward on certain prototypes, the more I realized how difficult it was to be alone in a game where the main character would be a “Humanoid”.

So I started to think about an aspect of the game that I could achieve, and especially that I could finish. At that time I was playing a game on my phone, called “Gravity Box” which I found excellent.

Visually minimalist, but it amused me. I have to admit, I’m someone who appreciates minimalist and easy-to-read graphics rather than overly detailed games.

From there, I thought that a cube mixed with a platform puzzle would be a good idea, and then I embarked on the CubiX adventure.

4- Why did you decide to integrate QUDO into your game?

When I was approached by a member of the QUDO team, I was a little skeptical. At that time, I received a lot of emails from people / companies who offered to promote my game on their store, or compose music for it, or whatever.

So I was a little wary of these proposals. And then I was contacted by Diogo, we had a call meeting, in which he introduced me to the company and the product. The idea appealed to me. I think QUDO could do a lot for the video game industry.

For a player, it’s always gratifying to be rewarded for doing something he/she loves: playing. Also if this reward helps me get additional content for the game, or gets rid of a frustrating factor which is advertising.

For the developer, this is just as beneficial as being rewarded because someone plays your game, but can also see the community grow, as it would revolve around a common axis: QUDO. And then if QUDO follows the Bitcoin trend, maybe we’ll all be millionaires 😊

5- Was it hard to integrate QUDO?

Actually not at all. The video tutorial is very well done, and when you encounter any problem, the support team is super responsive on Discord.

6- What kind of in-app purchases should we expect from CubiX Fragment?

Currently the player can buy 2 currencies present in the game. They allow you to unlock skins for the Cube.

One of the currencies is acquired by completing levels, but if the player wants to unlock certain skins faster, he/she can purchase one of the desired currency. In the long term, this mechanism could be completely replaced by purchases via QUDOs.

7- Besides network rewards are you planning to offer achievements or highscores rewards for your players?

I think that’s something totally possible. Whether it’s achievements or highscore rewards, it’s something that could bring some re-playability. But first, I would have to create a few more worlds.

8- Besides CubiX Fragment, can we expect more games in the future?

I hope you do 😊.

I’m currently working on another game project (in 2D this time). For the moment I am at the stage of development of various mechanics of the game, but I am already sure to integrate QUDO into it. But like I said before, game development is not my full time job, which means it would take a while before I could release this new game.

CubiX is a very interesting and challenging game. We are proud to announce Lushkin Games as one of the QUDO game developers and we can’t wait to know more about this secret 2D game that is under development, maybe we will get a chance to have a sneak peak into the game soon. Stay tuned ;)

We are still accepting more game developers with the possibility to join us as founding partners until we launch QUDO on the Telos main net. There is no need for previous blockchain knowledge or experience, you just need a game that could benefit from QUDO’s features.
