There are more games joining QUDO at launch and today we at Block Bastards present you Versus, an ‘endless runner’ game, developed by Load.

Load is a digital innovation company founded in 2012, dedicated to building digital products as a service, using multiple tech trends, including Virtual Reality and Interactive Experiences, like games.

In Versus (VS), players bet on themselves against other players, on who can survive the longest before getting killed from one of the different obstacles that appear along the way. At first it might seem easy to avoid all obstacles, but it gets harder every time they go around the tiny world they are running on.

This week we had the pleasure to interview Davide Ricardo and José Figueiredo, some of the people behind the game being developed by Load.

Davide Ricardo and José Figueiredo

1- Where did the idea of creating Versus come from?

Davide Ricardo: We know the guys from Block Bastards and really believe in the concept behind QUDO, so we decided to invest some of our Research & Development time to explore QUDO features and soon realised we could do a game using QUDO features in a different way, so we developed a concept and started building a game from scratch.

2- Could you tell us a bit about your game?

José Figueiredo: Versus is a game based on procedurally generated content, so every time you play, different things happen on screen, but also your avatar’s skills and looks grow according to your gameplay style. Players control their avatar who runs at a permanently increasing speed, avoiding obstacles to stay alive. It is called Versus because of the Player versus Player essence of the game: players bet against each other depositing QUDO coins into a pot and the winner — who gets farther — collects all QUDO coins from the pot. Of course you can play single mode and try to beat your own ghost.

3- When can you expect Versus to be released?

Davide Ricardo: It is still hard to tell the exact date because we’re still under development, but we aim at beta launch for Q3 2020.

4- Can we take a sneak peak at VS?

José Figueiredo: Hahaha, no! It is too early stage and graphics aren’t yet very polished. We’re focused on the procedural content generation algorithms and on the core gameplay. Basic game logic is there already and you can already play the core concept, but it’s not wise to share how it looks at the moment.

5 — What made you choose QUDO instead of a traditional monetization with ads?

Davide Ricardo: Ads never crossed our mind, because it totally ruins gameplay experience and automatically puts your game into the “play once, delete afterwards” league. We are perhaps the exception, but given our explorative nature as a tech company and knowing QUDO since its inception, Versus has been built to explore the rewarding mechanism of QUDO and the use of QUDO coins/tokens in games. Similarly to Block Bastards, we’re also a company that develops Blockchain based solutions, but in our case, we do it for our customers. So we’re permanently putting in practice ideation, experimentation and prototyping. It is part of our essence. For that reason, we consider VS as a “not-so-fast” (laughs) prototyping experience in both gameplay and monetization fields.

6- What kind of in-app purchases should we expect from Versus?

Davide Ricardo: For the MVP (minimal viable product) phase, we aren’t considering IAPs. We want to go live with the core mechanics and experience the core crypto rewarding experience as game developers, while understanding our players’ feedback on their earnings while playing Versus. In the future we are considering multiple possibilities, one of the most probable is a marketplace of avatars with pre-grown skills.

7- Besides network rewards are you planning to offer achievements or highscores rewards for your players?

José Figueiredo: Since we’re adopting a different monetization model for Versus (winner takes it all), the performance based rewards are dealt in between players. However, we’re considering achievement rewards which are distributed regularly for the top global players of Versus.

Versus looks like a really promising game with great features that will seamlessly benefit from QUDO’s rewarding mechanism. We are excited to have Load as a QUDO’s founding partner and we can’t wait for Versus to be released.

We are still accepting more game developers to join us as founding partners until we launch QUDO on the Telos main net, during this summer. There is no need for previous blockchain knowledge or experience, you just need a game that could benefit from QUDO’s features.
