Upscale Diner Opens In Uptown’s Restored Lawrence House Next Week
The once-rundown hotel will now host a restaurant from Anthony Fiore, the owner of Logan Square’s Jam.
UPTOWN — All-day diner 3 Squares plans to serve up “elevated diner fare” when it opens June 8 in the Lawrence House.
The restaurant comes from Anthony Fiore, the owner of Logan Square’s Jam restaurant, and chefs Jeff Mauro and Ian Voakes. The new diner will offer up breakfast, lunch and dinner — though breakfast will be available all day at the diner — and will operate out of the historic Lawrence House, 1020 W. Lawrence Ave.
The menu is set to include biscuits and gravy with coconut milk, lamb bacon and vadouvan poached egg.
The restaurant’s home, Lawrence House, was once an upscale hotel, but was later neglected by its owners and became a rundown home for low-income residents despite a long list of building code violations. It was sold and extensively rehabbed in 2013, though the building’s owners kept its art deco style.
3 Squares sought to work with that style by using decorations and materials “that echo, but don’t exactly replicate the Lawrence House aesthetic,” restaurant designer Heather Fritz said in a statement. “We sourced beautiful brass diamond-shaped pendant lighting fixtures to liaise with Lawrence House lobby’s terrazzo floor and historic skylight.”
Fiore said 3 Squares will officially open Friday, June 8, though the owners are also considering a soft opening on Thursday.
The diner will be open 7 a.m.-9 p.m. every day at 1020 W. Lawrence Ave.
