Boy, 7, Grazed By Bullet In Wicker Park Shooting, Police Say
The boy was hurt by a bullet fragment to his chin, according to police.
WICKER PARK — A boy riding in a car with three adults was grazed by a bullet in a drive-by shooting in Wicker Park late Thursday, police confirmed.
About 11:20 p.m. Thursday, the 7-year-old boy and three other people were shot at by two people in the 1600 block of North Claremont Avenue, according to Officer Jose Jara, a Chicago police spokesman. Police believe the incident was gang related and said the shooter was known by the people in the car with the boy.
Witnesses on the scene said there were two cars involved in the incident and the shooters were in another car.
The boy, hit by a bullet fragment in his chin, was taken to Saints Mary and Elizabeth Medical Center in good condition, police said.
Two women, ages 18 and 56, and a 24-year-old man who were in the car with the boy were not injured.
A neighbor who lives near where the shooting happened said police blocked off an alley between Claremont and Oakley as they investigated the incident.
“Bullet hit the windshield,” the neighbor wrote on Facebook. “They are still processing what happened. It’s just crazy.”
No one is in custody. Area North detectives are investigating.
