SOUTH SHORE — Police officers and firefighters temporarily blocked traffic along the 7500 block of South Stony Island Avenue in front of Jackson Park Hospital in response to a damaged gas main.

A call came in at 11:09 a.m. about a potential gas main issue, Chicago police officer Jennifer Bryk said.

Traffic is currently blocked only along South Stony Island Avenue both northbound and southbound. But drivers are still moving steadily down 75th Street and 76th Street.

First responders from the Chicago Fire Department, Peoples Gas, are on the scene alongside Chicago Police. No word has been given yet as to when traffic will resume normally.
