WICKER PARK — Police are looking for a man who broke into a Wicker Park apartment and stabbed a woman early Monday.

A man armed with a knife entered a 24-year-old woman’s apartment in the 1300 block of North Bell Avenue just before 1 a.m. Monday, said Officer Jennifer Bryk, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

“When she saw the knife, she grabbed for it and was cut. She yelled for her roommate and at that time he stabbed her in the thigh and then he ran out the back door,” Bryk said.

The woman, who sustained cuts on her hand and thigh, was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital, Bryk said. Her condition was unknown.

In a Shakespeare District (14th) community alert sent by police on Thursday, surveillance photos show a white man, approximately 40–50, wearing a dark baseball hat, white T-shirt, shorts, white socks and dark shoes. The man also appears to have multiple tattoos on his arms and legs.

Anyone with information should call Area North Bureau of Detectives at 312–744–8263. Tips can also be sent anonymously online.

Police advise residents to be aware of surroundings, call 911 to report suspicious activity immediately and to never pursue a fleeing assailant.
