PILSEN — After a long winter, Pilsen residents can now soak up the sunshine at a new patio space on Damen.

L’ Cafecito Jumping Bean, 2010 S. Damen Ave., debuted some new amenities to its patio space off the Damen Pink Line stop.

“We added some new umbrellas, tables and chairs,” owner Eleazar Delgado said.

Delgado, who oversaw the renovations, is eager to see the community make use of the patio.

“It’s open for everyone in the neighborhood,” Delgado said. “Come out. Take a break. Relax. You can bring your lunch, or buy a lunch here. You don’t have to make a purchase to enjoy the space. Everyone is welcome.”

The longtime owner of the popular coffeehouse opened its second Pilsen outpost in November 2016.

For years, Delgado envisioned opening a second location and noticed an available retail space underneath the Damen “L” stop. He knew the location — blocks from Harrison Park, the National Museum of Mexican Art, El Valor and Orozco Community Academy — would make a great spot for a new coffee shop, he told DNA in 2016.

Delgado opened the original Café Jumping Bean on 18th Street 24 years ago.

L’ Cafecito Jumping Bean serves up a variety of hot and cold coffee-based drinks, teas, Mexican hot chocolate, baked goods, sandwiches and soups.
