There is still a lot of work to do to get to mass adoption but there are people who make a difference and help citizens and institutions understand the Cryptocurrency sector. One of them is Francis Xavier Suarez, American lawyer and politician serving as the 43rd mayor of Miami. Republican, he is currently serving as the president of the US Conference of Mayors for the 2022–2023 term.

Suarez announced in late 2021 that he would receive his next salary in Bitcoin and his promotion of Bitcoin has made him popular among Crypto enthusiasts. He favored statewide legislation that would allow the use of Cryptocurrency to grow and backed Miami to investigate ways it can conduct municipal business with Cryptocurrency. Suarez has long-term plans to turn Miami and Florida into the Silicon Valley of Cryptocurrencies. Financial disclosure documents show that he held more than $10,000 in Cryptocurrency at the end of 2021. His crypto account is with Strike, a mobile payment application that permits to buy and sell Bitcoin, with no added fees. In April 2022 Miami hosted the Bitcoin 2022 Conference, which was held at the Miami Beach Convention Center, where the Miami Bull, a techno version of Wall Street’s Charging Bull, was unveiled.

Bitcoin Conference has featured experts, industry leaders, investors, and enthusiasts coming together for lectures, panel discussions, Q&As, pitches, open source content, and more. Mayor Francis Suarez has a real Crypto agenda in mind that goes beyond the borders of Florida and as President of the United States Conference of Mayors, he asked other mayors to sign a “mayoral crypto compact” promoting the use of Cryptocurrency .

Unfortunately Suarez is often criticized by critics of Bitcoin which is seen as a means of encouraging illegal or criminal activities. To learn more about this topic, read my article by clicking here. Suarez supported Miamicoin, a so called “Citycoin”. CityCoins earn STX and BTC for holders, while allocating funds to treasuries reserved for cities around the world. Miamicoin is listed on Coinmarketcap and its value has dropped over 90% since its highest point.
