Polyient Games is breaking into the blockchain gaming space with Founders Keys, inspired by our own Neon District Founders Keys! They’re slowly releasing keys into the ecosystem, and they’ve contributed the very first key just for the release of “Codename: Metaboss”!
What we learned from the first episode
The first episode helped us identify some critical bugs and key user experience issues we couldn’t have found without the help of the community and the intense competition between players. We’ve engaged closely with our community, some for hours-long conversations, to determine the most important updates we need to make for the second episode of Codename: Metaboss.
Most importantly, we’ve identified a few hard-to-find bugs in our battle system that miscalculated the round results. The bugs we found were as follows:
- We apply a handicap to the team with fewer base points entering a round, so that player activity is necessary for a team to come out on top. We initially had two handicaps: one for NFT base points, and another intended to address a significant disparity between players. This second handicap turned out to be unnecessary and harmful to the FLEC team, which had a significant lead in players over Skirge. We’ve since removed this handicap.
- We’ve also found and addresses a few smaller calculation bugs that had a noticeable impact on the outcome of the rounds. This favored FLEC most of the time, but the end result of the episode would have likely remained the same regardless.
In our last few private community play-throughs, we found a number of significant issues, most of which needed to be addressed prior to the first episode with real rewards on the line. Thanks to our community, we found ways to make episodes exciting and balanced even with unbalanced teams, and found issues that would have led to massive botting. These were much higher priority for us, and now we’re finding more nuanced issues in real-world testing.
In order to make sure these issues don’t occur again, we’re doing the following:
- We’ve built a detailed auditor that can replay a round and generate a full report on all of the math and results that determined the outcome of a round.
- We will be automatically publishing the above audits for each round after they occur so that everyone can see exactly how the round results were determined.

We will be pushing up numerous updates to Metaboss based on the feedback we received during the first episode. We are currently preparing for Episode Two, and you can keep up with dev updates on our Discord.
