Play Neon District

Neon District is live at the Neon District Portal.

Getting Started

To get started with crafting a character, begin by logging in or creating an account if you don’t have one already. 2FA can be turned on for your account as an extra layer of security if you choose to use it. If you are a new player, you will be given a free character to start with but will need to buy Gear Crates to get equipment to put on your character. (Existing players that already have equipment can skip to the How do I put equipment on my character? section.)

Linking a Blockchain Wallet

If you choose to, you may link an ethereum mainnet wallet to your account. This is useful if you own a Neon District Key or Degen Trophy and want it to be visible to the game. All assets purchased from the portal will be stored in your assigned matic wallet linked to your account, but assets will be transferable to your mainnet wallet using the transfer button and paying the gas fee if you choose to do so. To link your wallet, click the profile button in the upper right.

From here, click on the wallets tab to see your wallets. IF you have not linked a wallet previously, you will only see your assigned custodial matic wallet for your account.

From here, click connect new wallet from a web3 enabled browser and sign the message that pops up to link your wallet. This will automatically check to see if you own any Neon District keys or trophies and apply the appropriate bonuses to Gear Crate purchases.

Buying Neon

To buy Gear Crates, you will first need to get Neon, the in game currency for Neon District. To do this, click the upper right box that says BUY NEON

From here, you will be presented with options of how much neon you would like to buy. You can pay with either Credit Card or ETH (using a connected web3 enabled wallet). Once you have completed the checkout process, you will now have NEON in your account.

Buying Equipment

Now that you have NEON, you will want to use it to buy some gear to equip your character with. To do this, click the GET GEAR button on the dashboard.

Each Loot Crate costs 500 NEON and will give you 4 random items of common-legendary rarity as defined by the Loot Rates table at the bottom. (Loot rate table can be improved based on what tier of Key or Trophy you own in a linked wallet). Click a button for how many crates you would like to purchase or enter in a custom amount at the top. You will be prompted to buy more NEON if you select an amount greater than the amount of NEON you currently own.

Click the BUY BOXES in the upper right corner once you have picked the amount wish to buy

You will now see what each Crate contains on the next page. If you bought more than one crate, you can click Open Next in the upper right to open them 1 at a time, or click View All to view all them at once.

Buying Characters

Characters are what you will equip this gear to. Every player receives one free starting character in their account, so you may skip to the next section if you don’t plan to buy more characters for now. To get an additional character, click the GET CHARACTERS button on the dashboard

Characters cost 100 NEON each and there are 6 different types to choose from. A generic description of each is provided on the menu with their strengths and weaknesses. You can toggle between Male and Female looks by clicking the gender toggle above the character image. Gender can be changed after purchase, so don’t worry about what you have the toggle set to before purchase.

Once bought, you will be presented with a success message. From here you can either buy another character using the upper right button, or continue on to managing the character.

How do I put equipment on my character?

Now that you have both equipment and a character, you can begin composing your character. To do this, click the level up button on the dashboard for characters.

Choose one of your characters you wish to equip.

On this page you can see that our character is currently level 1 and are able to view all their current S.T.A.Ts and C.A.R.Ds. Clicking the Bio button will show their currently equipped items, name and gender. (An update soon will allow players to name the character and change the gender). To add equipment, click the equip button at the top.

From here, you can click the type of gear you would like to equip in the upper right (head, body, arms, legs, weapon) and below will show all the gear you have available to equip.

Now your final character has been outfitted with gear.

How do I level up my character and equipment?

Now that you have assembled your first character, you can now begin leveling up the character or their gear by using Juice or Parts. Each new account gets 10 juice for free to start which is enough to level a character to Level 4. To get additonal Juice or Parts, go to the dashboard and click on the BUY JUICE or BUY PARTS button.

From this page, select how much juice/parts you would like to buy, and verify the transaction as long as you have enough neon.

Now that you have Juice/Parts, you can begin to level your characters and equipment. To level your character, click the level up button on the dashboard for characters.

Select the character you wish to upgrade.

On this screen you can level up your character by clicking the LEVEL button (It shows the required juice cost below to upgrade)

You will be asked to confirm the leveling process on the next page as long as you have enough Juice. NOTE: There is no going back on this upgrade once you click this button.

Now that you have initiated the leveling process, you will be presented with 3 randomly selected choices of upgrades for your character to upgrade either S.T.A.Ts or C.A.R.Ds. These have been locked to the upgrade process so restarting the process will not reroll what you received. You will get a chance to review your selection on the next page before finalizing your choice and can come back if needed.

If you choose a S.T.A.T upgrade, you will move onto the final review page where you see the changes in your character stats and be asked to confirm these changes as they will be permanent once you hit Finalize.

Otherwise if you choose a C.A.R.D upgrade, you will first be asked to choose which card to swap it with of the 10 currently assigned to your character before going to the review page

Once you are satisfied with your upgrade selection, click the verification box at the bottom to confirm you read the review and then click finalize in the upper right to make this upgrade permanent.

Upgrading Armor/Weapons

The process to upgrade Armor and Weapons is similar to the character upgrade process above except it uses Parts to upgrade instead of Juice. If you have Parts in your account, click the LEVEL UP button for weapons or armor on the dashboard to begin the level up process.

On this page, find the item you would like to upgrade and select it

On this page, you can see the items current S.T.A.Ts and C.A.R.Ds and can click the LEVEL button (and see the Parts cost).

You will be asked to confirm the leveling process on the next page as long as you have enough Parts. NOTE: There is no going back on this upgrade once you click this button.

Now that you have initiated the leveling process, you will be presented with 3 randomly selected choices of upgrades for your gear to upgrade either stats or cards.

What’s Next?

You’re on the forefront of the Neon District experience now! The biggest piece of the game experience is coming over the next ten weeks: player-vs-player combat. With combat, you’ll be able to take your characters into battle against your friends, enemies, and other players around the world to compete for the top of the leaderboard.

Until this is live, there are a few major things you can do right now with your characters and gear, and it’s all about the nature of real ownership of blockchain assets: trading.

Transfer Your Tokens to Ethereum to Matic

You can take your tokens from your custodial account on the Matic sidechain over to the Ethereum mainnet, where you can sell your characters on OpenSea, trade them with others, or just hold your most valuable Neon District assets in your own Ethereum wallet.

Transferring tokens to Ethereum is a multi-step process. First, you need to pick the character you want to transfer.

You will be prompted with a modal that makes sure you have all the prerequisites for transferring your tokens to Ethereum. Security is paramount when you own real tradable assets, so we only let players trade their assets if they have two-factor authentication (2FA) enabled. Further, you must also sign a message with the wallet you want to transfer to, to further ensure that you’re sending a token to the address you actually want to receive your tokens on Ethereum.

Once all that is set, you’ll be able to initiate the token transfer. Behind the scenes, your custodial account signs two transactions and submits them to Matic mainnet. The first is the token approval transaction, and the second is the actual deposit call to the Transfer Gateway contract.

Once that happens, you’ll be given the prompt to submit your token release from the Ethereum mainnet transfer gateway, which will send the token to your Ethereum wallet.

Once that confirms, your token is officially in your Ethereum wallet, and you can take it over to OpenSea or trade it with others!

Transfer Your Tokens to Matic from Ethereum

Transferring your tokens back to your custodial Matic account from Ethereum requires all of the same actions, with a major difference: this time, because you own the tokens, you need to manually sign the approval and deposit transactions on Ethereum. These will show up as two separate transactions that you need to submit to the Ethereum network.

Once your token is in the Ethereum transfer gateway, the final step is all behind the scenes. Your custodial account will sign your token release transaction and send your token right back to your custodial Matic wallet.

Feature Review

Today marks the beginning of the Neon District Portal release roadmap for web and mobile. We’ve deployed an entirely new website for the Neon District Portal, laying the groundwork for a full web and mobile game experience that will roll out quickly through the next several months.

As of today:

  • Neon District is fully live on Matic’s Ethereum layer two blockchain
  • Neon District requires zero blockchain knowledge, and no cryptocurrency, to create an account and prepare for a full free-to-play, play-to-earn experience
  • For the first time, fully animated character equipment is live: you can take your loot and equip any of your characters, see their stats change, and start preparing your characters for combat coming shortly
  • Characters, Armor, and Weapons can be transferred directly to and from Ethereum mainnet through our custom Transfer Gateway, allowing you to take your rarest assets to Ethereum, hold them in your own wallet, or put them up on third-party markets like OpenSea
  • You can buy loot boxes and start collecting rare assets, equipping them to characters, and leveling them up
  • The full leveling experience is now live on the Portal, so players can level up their characters, armor, and weapons up to level 5 in advance of combat

What are upcoming features and expected delivery dates?

Coming in mid-October: Craft and trade your fully equipped characters across multiple networks

Now that Neon District Portal is completely upgraded and live, we’re starting off our multi-stage project release roadmap. At least once a week, we’ll be updating the Neon District Portal with all of the newest complete features and fixes, leading up to the official Player V Player Combat release.

Because we’re going to be reacting to player feedback, we’ll also be shifting around priorities accordingly — some planned features may come sooner or be pushed back, some new features might be added as we find we want them. The more feedback you provide us, the better our roadmap reflects the community and our overall goals to make a great gaming experience.
