At the national and EU level, the climate for innovation, including blockchain, is highly favourable, encouraging startups to continue to develop value-added products while also connecting with other, more traditional companies that can re-build their business through green and future digital initiatives and modernize their processes by incorporating latest technologies.
However, a 2019 Eurostat survey looked at the main obstacles that small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and larger companies encounter in recruiting information and communication technology (ICT) professionals and how this has impacted economic growth and state-of-play in the labour market, pointing to an adverse trend: 55% of companies experienced difficulties recruiting ICT specialists throughout 2019. In addition, SMEs struggled more often in filling ICT vacancies.
We can conclude from this data that the gap between demand and available experts is a tremendous and ongoing challenge, which is also evident in the involvement in tenders. Anyone who has ever participated in an EU call can attest that this is a world of its own in which a good idea is just a beginning. Thus, blockchain startups must connect on time with experts who possess such know-how and can direct them in developing a strategy and approach that will bring success.
