Hey everyone, this is my second article and it’s about the early first-person shooter (FPS) Web3 games that I think are worth keeping on our radar. But before all of that, I would like to disclose again that everything that is written here does not constitute professional financial advice. The purpose of this article is for entertainment and to provide information.

I will be sharing here early-stage FPS play-and-earn games and when I say ‘early-stage’ it refers to those game projects that have not done NFT presales yet. So yes, you are early and you still have the time to grind for its whitelists. However, please do know that I am not writing this to make you a millionaire. Keep in mind that 99% of startups fail, so these early game projects might not be able to deliver in the end. I will also not be talking much about their tokenomics here. Most information on the crypto-related aspect in their whitepapers is still inadequate, as I have said, they are still in the early stages. Changes will be done in their whitepapers as time goes by.

In this article, I will primarily discuss the basic game mechanics of the upcoming FPS Web3 games that I think are fun to play. Video games are supposed to be fun, right? Anyway, before proceeding, I would like to share that I am a big fan of the FPS game genre and I have played several game titles like Borderlands, Left4Dead, Counter Strike GO, Call of Duty Series, Halo Series, Overwatch, Titanfall series, and many more.

During the 2021 crypto bull run, we have seen the rise of play-to-earn games like Axie Infinity. However, we have yet to see a first-person shooter & play-and-earn game that will go mainstream.

As reported by Absolute Reports, the market size of Play-to-Earn NFT Games is estimated to be worth $777 million in 2021. As of 2021, the Web2 video gaming industry is estimated to be worth $178.73 billion, increasing by 14.4% from 2020 and this is predicted to surge up to $268 billion by 2025 according to WePC. As we can see, the Web3 gaming industry is not even 1% of the Web2 gaming industry, that’s how tiny the market of play-and-earn games is. We are still definitely on the tip of the iceberg.

In addition, a report by Statista (2021) shows that shooter games are the most played game genre worldwide. All these data show us that the Web3 FPS gaming space will accelerate its growth at a ridiculously fast rate in the coming years. There are going to be a lot of opportunities and money to be made.

So let’s dive in:

1. Rage Effect

Official Website of Rage Effect (https://www.rageeffect.io/)

Rage Effect is a community-driven Player-vs-Player (PVP) and Player-vs-Environment (PVE) First Person Shooter (FPS) game that will be built around the Solana blockchain. Rage Effect will also be available on both mobile and PC.

Players may choose among six different game modes: (1) Team Death-match (2) Free for All (3) Capture the Flag (4) Domination (5) Demolition (6) Gun Game

There will be seven maps in the game:

  1. Khrool Island
  2. Himalayas
  3. Doomsday
  4. Construction
  5. Abandoned City
  6. Desert
  7. Treasure Island
Himalayas Map (PC Alpha Version)
Khrool Island (Pre-Alpha Mobile Version)
Desert Map (PC Alpha Version)

Players can join or create their own guild, invite their friends, win rewards, and rise through the ranks together! Each map includes up to five hidden gun spots, different stealth covers, and everything else that will help players to perform at their best.

They can also choose from an arsenal of weapons such as snipers, assault rifles, pistols, grenade launchers, and so much more.

NFTs & Rewards System

  1. Battle Arena NFTs
Rage Effect Battle Arena Prototype (https://docs.rageeffect.io/nft-system/rge-battle-arenas)

Players own Battle Arenas, which are playable land assets. They will serve as venues for team matches and are one of the passive ways to earn $RGE tokens. Owners of these NFTs receive rewards and get a fee from the game platform and participating teams by hosting game matches, tournaments, and other events. Battle Arenas can also be modified by purchasing and building new facilities in order to attract more players.

Teams with a maximum of four players can participate and the matches will be turn-based. Once a player has been eliminated, his teammate takes his place until the last member of the team loses. Special NFTs and game assets will be rewarded to winning teams.

2. The Genesis Skin NFT Collection

A Golden Samurai

This collection will compose of 5,300 NFTs of soldiers of several rarities, with 300 reserved for rewards and giveaways.

These NFTs can act as token access NFTs, or Battle Passes, for future special events, pre-dominantly being the Battle Royale seasons and exclusive early accesses and airdrops that include vehicles, weapon skins, emblems, and so on.

Benefits of buying these NFTs are (1) reducing tax payments (2) getting airdrop of vehicle NFTs (3) having access to a private community closer to the team (4) becoming one of the first to use the Referral Code System (5) private access to the first official battle royale season only for skin collection holders

3. Cosmetic NFTs

The game will have a wide range of cosmetic NFTs to be offered. These NFTs can’t be lost in-game, and they can only be traded on third-party marketplaces. This includes exclusive skins, camouflages, vehicle and weapon decorations, as well as badges, and other accessories.

There will be cosmetic NFTs available that won’t affect gameplay, including representative badges and in-game Easter Eggs. There will be NFTs that have a direct impact on gameplay including weapons, armor, vehicles like tanks, planes, helicopters, etc.

NFT game assets will be an integral part of the Rage Effect gaming experience, which must be bought in the marketplace.

2. Victory Point

Official Website of Victory Point (https://victorypoint.io/)

Victory Point is a Free-to-Play-to-Earn (F2P & P2E) multiplayer first-person shooter (FPS) game that is built using Unreal Engine and will be powered by blockchain and NFTs. The game was originally planned to be released only on PC via Steam and Epic Games as a Web2 game (its previous name was Hind Warfare). In late 2021, the team decided to bring Victory Point into the blockchain as a F2P & P&E game on both mobile and PC. Both versions are currently at their alpha stages and they are expected to be released sometime in Q2 of 2023.

It is said to be the first game to adopt a zero-sum-game reward system with the focus on retaining a long-term, healthy and sustainable economy within its ecosystem. The more a player kills, the more he/she earns!

There are four modes of gameplay:

  • Team Deathmatch
  • Free-for-All
  • Death Mode
  • Guild Wars

Each game mode has a unique reward distribution mechanism to reward players based on their play styles.

NFTs

Players can create unique arsenals by upgrading and customizing their weapons. And then these weapons can later be sold or rented on the Victory NFT Marketplace to receive rewards in the form of $VIT tokens or the in-game currency of Victory Point.

Rewards System

Each player must commit $VIT into a prize pool before to before entering a match. The amount of $VIT to commit varies based on the Game Rank and Game Mode. Once the match is over, the players will receive their share in the reward pool based on their placements on the match leaderboard.

The design of tokenomics of the Victory Point is a “zero-sum game” reward system. Most Web3 games are using two-token models, which the team believes that it results in an unsustainable economy. A zero-sum game is a situation in which every participant can either win or lose, and the total value of those winnings and losses is always equal to zero. Simply put, in Victory Point, the losers pay the winners.

There will be two main game modes in the game such as progressive open world and competitive.

  1. Competitive Game Mode

In the competitive mode, two five-person teams compete in an 18-round battle. The attacking team must place their miner in specific areas. These areas must be protected by the defender team from the enemy. If every player on either team is eliminated, that round is over. The attacking team will lose if the miner is not deployed before time runs out. The miner timer runs for 45 seconds and each round lasts two minutes. The game will reach halftime after the first nine rounds, at which point teams will switch sides. The game is won by the first team to score ten. If both teams score nine, there will be overtime, with two rounds played until one team takes a two-round advantage.

You can use this token to pay for in-game assets, reward passes, battle passes, loot boxes, and so on. Players can earn in-game assets and comics as NFTs.
