Ripple (XRP), a top five cryptocurrency with a $43.6 billion market capitalization, has increased over 50% in the past 24 hours. As of December 21 2017, according to CoinMarketCap, Ripple ranks fourth on market cap, just behind the digital money giants Bitcoin, Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash. The trading price of one XRP is now $1.17.

XRP is a cryptocurrency developed by the financial technology company Ripple. Its CEO Brad Garlinghouse has previously held executive positions at AOL and Yahoo! between 2003 and 2012. Leaving behind his careers at AOL or Yahoo! is undoubtedly a risky choice. But the CEO probably made the right decision as while XRP has $43.6 billion market cap, the company has successfully licensed its blockchain technology RippleNet to over 100 banks such as UniCredit, Standard Chartered, UBS and the National Bank of Abu Dhabi.

Brad Garlinghouse is optimistic about the future of cryptocurrency. During an interview with CNBC, he described blockchain technology and cryptocurrency as a transformative “movement” that will “fundamentally change the way global commerce is managed, from a payments point of view”. Today, the CEO announced on his Twitter that XRP is now listed on 50 exchanges around the world. He is also determined that the team will continue to champion more listings.

Brad Garlinghouse has an MBA degree from Harvard Business School. After AOL and Yahoo, he was the former CEO and Chairman of Hightail before joining Ripple. He is also an active angel investor in over 40 companies including hardware company Pure Storage, AI startup Diffbot, and Indigo Agriculture.

Brad Garlinghouse will attend the Blockchain Connect Conference in San Francisco on Jan. 26, 2018.
