PSA: Storefronts and Potions

It’s been quite a week. The last few days have been quite charged in the community with the change of the Youth Potions that came to the live server.
The Situation
The Youth Potions (YP further) have been removed from the Pawshop pending a change in the YP mechanic. However, it was not advertised with a head start before it happened in order to prevent abuse. Which concerned a lot of the players.
The root of the problem with the removal was not the change itself, but how it was handled in the first place. As some players noted during the discussions in our chatrooms. That is an understandable reaction, we recognize that some might feel wronged in this situation, where a big argument was that the players did not receive prior notice to buy as many potions as they are able to before those are removed from the shop and they’ve had many Pawcoins saved up for the YP purchases.
To be clear, this was not done in malice or to spite any players. This was done to prevent abuse by some of the players that know how to get quick YP. This happened before, and that is what the team was basing the decision off of.
A major lingering assumption that was from roughly February, that every move will be announced in weeks or more for the players. Which is not the reality of the situation. There were ideas to remove YP from the Pawshop back then and we discussed it with players, we had a conversation about it on the Pawedcast and I have, in fact, stated that if such change will become a reality at that time, we will do our best to give a heads up to the players. But at that time the decision was made to leave YP where it is for the time being. That closed the whole ordeal up until this week.
What happens now
We love the fact that our community is active in discussions on how to better the game, give their feedback, and propose ideas. We try to implement as much of your ideas as we can, but the team is the decision-maker in the end and we do our damned best to do right by the players and make the game as fair and balanced as possible. These decisions a lot of the times are hard and can have a negative response at first. Change is hard. Ideas and game balance feedback is always welcomed and encouraged. However, when it comes to offers on the storefronts of the game, the team will do what needs to be done in order to give the players a better experience and manage a healthier outcome as a whole. If that means that an offer would change within a storefront, that’s what we will do. If a player has the means to get the offer at the time it is available, it is their right to do so, but it is within our right to change the offer as the game demands it according to the data and game’s development plan where some mechanics will change and some of the offers will change accordingly.
Certainly, the team understands that players want to get their fair chance to get the YP before they are changed to the new YP system, where the potions are tiered, instead of 1 item for general purpose, it will be split into multiple items targeted at specific goals, with their own value.
Today, we gathered to figure out a solution to diffuse the situation so that all of the parties get a fair resolution.
We decided that it would be fair to make the YP available for a limited time, until Monday, 31st of August as it was. Afterward, it will change to a new model for the YP.
Out with the old in with the new
The new model for the YP will be slightly different.
The potion will be broken down into three tiers and they will be distributed differently:
- Spiked Elixir of Youth will be dropping down Generations to a maximum of 5th Generation and will be acquirable through Pawshop for 5000 PawCoins.
- Distilled Elixir of Youth will be dropping down Generation to a maximum of 2nd Generation and will be acquirable through Pawshop for 10000 Pawcoins.
- Pure Elixir of Youth will be dropping down Generation to a maximum of 0 Generation and will be acquirable through monetary purchases and will cost 7USD.
