A story of 4 interns dabbling with Blockchain

Birthvenue is a fantastic company that strives to create innovation while promoting inclusion and collaboration. We joined the team as interns with the opportunity to work in an exciting research project. There are very few companies who have a passion for innovation in Blockchain as Birthvenue, and we will be eternally grateful to be allowed to work on this project. We are glad that our curiosity about the domain was acknowledged and provided a platform for a real-world project.
For blockchain enthusiasts like us, The company also provides a course on blockchain fundamentals, blockchain use cases, and developing applications on popular blockchains like Ethereum and Hyperledger. The course offered is very beginner-friendly while being extremely comprehensive. The course not only covers the concepts but includes projects where you experience hands-on development of dApps. The course tests your learnings regularly, enabling you to use your knowledge to further pursue a career in blockchain.
During our time, we worked on a novel cryptocurrency rating tool. We realized that a comprehensive analysis of the cryptocurrency market was still missing, as most studies have focused exclusively on the behavior of one (Bitcoin) or few cryptocurrencies. Information regarding the intrinsic value and the future scope of cryptocurrencies was either unavailable or unreliable. Hence, this project intends to identify and analyze the parameters by which ratings for cryptocurrencies are issued globally and create a rating algorithm/tool that users and investors can rely on.
As token gained popularity as investment vehicles, it gave rise to a whole new supplementary industry focused on servicing the crypto market. Rating tools like CoinGecko, Messari, CoinMarketCap and Cryptocompare have been providing investment advisory services for years. However, our research concluded that while these are all extremely thorough in their rating, most ratings consider only a few parameters in their algorithm which may result in a biased or untrue view of a token. For example, Messari provides and uses technical indicators to help investors decide and predict the prices. However, it overlooks a complete set of social parameters which is a significant factor affecting token prices. Theratingproject, which began operations in 2019, is the only Token rating tool in India that provides a true holistic value of a token generated through a complex algorithm, using a combination of a number of highly focused quantitative and qualitative parameters.
Our internship began early 2019. Initially, we were a bit apprehensive about working entirely remotely. However, Rohit and Sabarish were proactive mentors and made sure they were always available. The weekly Zoom meetings and precise project planning ensured that we finished the project in time, and all doubts were solved promptly, avoiding any potential setbacks. We appreciate the flexibility provided to us in terms of work hours and transparency above many other qualities. Our mentors were extremely understanding of our academic duties and gave us leeway during our examinations.
With the help of the team, we managed to get our white-paper ‘The simplest tool to understand the value of a token’ published with the International Journal of Scientific & Engineering Research.
Overall, the experience working on this project has played an immense role in shaping our future career aspirations. The opportunity to work in the latest tech domains like AWS, Machine Learning, and Blockchain has enabled us to explore Computer Science. Owing to the experiences working at Birthvenue, Devansh has bagged a job at Microsoft. Owing to the recommendations given by Birthvenue, the rest of us have been offered admission to prestigious universities like Columbia, University of Southern California, and Stonybrook to pursue a Masters of Science in Computer Science.
