NFC Lisbon
NFC Lisbon is the melting pot of creativity in the web3 space with some of the most innovative art, games, and blockchain technology across the creative sector. The event spanned a range of discussions that have evolved from the previous year, tackling more complex topics around art, gaming and other areas of web3. Alongside The Sandbox and other novel web3 games and metaverse projects, BGA was excited to be present at the BGA Gaming Street, with five of our members who showcased their games at our booth.

This event represented the opportunity to be present in one of Europe’s largest Web3 hubs and meet many established and new projects building games and tools for the Web3 gaming ecosystem.

At the booth
BGA hosted Digard building Eldarune, a Medieval ARPG Game, and Volt Games with the release of MetaStar Strikers, a fun arcade football game where football fans and gamers meet. Synergy Games joined the booth to leverage the event’s exposure for the release of the open Beta of their multiplayer ARPG game Synergy Land.
VR Future, building TerminalOneNFT, a Retrofuture-inspired Meta Pilots saving Kyron from the elusive Ancients, joined us, as well as Qudo, presenting their revolutionary proof-of-gameplay reward mechanism that rewards Gamers and Developers with a crypto token.

BGA members expressed their time at the booth as an opportunity to touch base with the BGA, network with other members, gain exposure by showcasing their products to conference attendees, and meet potential collaborators.

Visitors to the booth had the opportunity to mint a POAP via our IYK disk, and one lucky winner bagged a one-year individual membership to the BGA.

From the BGA side, whilst this is a smaller event than some of the others we have attended, such as Consensus and GDC earlier this year, it was an excellent opportunity to connect with the community and gain feedback from our members as well as make connections with new members who are interested in leveraging the networking opportunities and expertise within the alliance.

On the Stage
In a packed room, at the lightning stage. The panel discussion alongside our members Pedro Herrera from Dappradar and Benjamin Charbit from Life Beyond, moderated by Flavien Defraire from the BGA, evaluated the value of on and off-chain analytics for web3 games. It was an interesting conversation that looked at both sides, on-chain data, which Dappradar specializes in providing, demonstrating trends and other key metrics — And off-chain, community-driven data from Life Beyond, for whom community engagement and behavior, which is not on-chain, is equally important. Both speakers shared their experiences from their perspectives to look at the importance of analytics across the spectrum of activity and how studios can capitalize on this to create the best models for upcoming games.

Side Event
Our side event, alongside BlackPool and BGA member Cometh, was a huge success. The venue was packed with over 150 attendees from across the ecosystem to participate and listen to the panel discussion with BlackPool, Cometh and Cross the Ages as they discussed the hype around web3 gaming and what this will look like going forward.

Among the virtual tickets were hidden three gold tickets, organized in collaboration with BGA member Billy, a ticketing platform that enables an engaging experience, bringing the ticketing process to life and engaging our community into a more interactive and fun ticketing experience.

From one European event to another, BGA headed off to Berlin to attend the next event and showcase more BGA members during this weekend’s event.

Web3 Berlin
A small Berlin affair, this event enabled us to strengthen our relationship with BGA members who attended and collaborated in the awesome side event that we co-hosted with BGA members Upland and Wombat.

Side event with Wombat and Upland
During this exciting event, Upland unveiled the much-anticipated opening of Berlin City in its virtual world. Bringing together community members from the Blockchain Game Alliance, Wombat, and Uplanders to discover, meet and network.

At the booth
We had the opportunity to welcome BGA members at our booth, where we hosted Moonlit Games with Rogue Nation, a rogue-lite Action RPG, which brought a lot of excitement to the booth as attendees played the game and attempted to reach the top of the leaderboard, creating a fun and competitive atmosphere around the game.

Forest Knight showcased the upgraded design and latest version of this turn-based RPG set in a story-driven fantasy world. Wombat also joined us at the booth, showcasing the App they built, allowing users to find the latest games & NFTs.

On the stage
BGA’s Flavien Defraire moderated the gaming panel discussion, joined by Philipp Hübner, Co-Founder of Unbound, and Adrian Krion, CEO & CO-Founder of Wombat, to discuss ‘Why Players are Cautious with Web3 Gaming?’

The panelists unpacked several issues within this topic, exploring the issue of adoption and attracting players in web3 gaming. Firstly, looking at web3 gaming as a new genre and whether players in this space are motivated by the game or the economic value of game assets is not what is being seen by the speakers within their projects.

When discussing the innovative way players can own their digital assets, Adrian Krion from Wombat remarked: “NFTs are powerful, and they don’t have to be seen as a scam if we educate people the right way.”

Moving on to scalability and the advancements in blockchain technology that make this possible. Then, tackling ways games can increase adoption and improve the player’s journey in the blockchain environment by outlining the benefits of web3 games for players as a community and how these can be effectively communicated, and what will be the catalyst for mainstream adoption, a triple-A game or well-known project such as Yuga Labs launching a game, or utility of NFTs.
This was a dynamic discussion, filled with insights leveraging the panelists’ experience into how we can alleviate some of the challenges encountered to bring players into web3 games.
