BGA x OMA3: Working Toward Interoperability in the Metaverse
We are delighted to announce that the BGA has partnered with OMA3, the Open Metaverse Alliance for Web3. Launched in October 2022 with headquarters in Zug, Switzerland, OMA3 is a consortium of the top Metaverse and infrastructure companies in Web3. Its mission is to empower a user-owned Metaverse by creating common standards across the web3 gaming landscape to enable interoperability across different metaverse and gaming worlds.
Projects such as Decentraland, as well as several BGA members such as Alien Worlds, The Sandbox, Telescope Labs, MetaJuice, and many more projects, are working together as part of the OMA3 community to standardize Infrastructure and elevate the industry to new heights, engaging users by delivering unparalleled engagement across gaming ecosystems.
Currently, OMA3 is working on several projects dedicated to expanding the realm of possibilities within the Metaverse:
- Inter-World Portals, which enable users to seamlessly hop between various member ecosystems using a protocol for portaling, not only enhancing accessibility across more games but also fostering a sense of interconnectedness where users can explore diverse virtual gaming worlds.
- Land Domain Names, which provide identifiable domain names for Metaverse land.
- Inter-World Asset Transfers allow users to seamlessly transfer avatars and items from one member world to another across different blockchains.
- NFTs — As one of their core objectives, OMA3 aims to support creators to ensure they receive royalties for their artistic contributions by establishing a fair and transparent royalty system. This project will address other challenges in NFTs as well.
These initiatives are set to expand the way users navigate and interact with Metaverse platforms and web3 games by redefining the boundaries of immersion and interconnectivity.
How can BGA members get involved?
Our partnership with OMA3 provides an exciting opportunity for BGA members to participate in OMA3 projects and work on the standardization of infrastructure to enable the user-owned and interoperable Metaverse.
BGA members will be able to join OMA3’s Portaling and Mapping Working Group (PMWG), Asset Transfer Working Group (ATWG), and NFT Working Group (NFTWG), with access to working group folders. Most meetings are held weekly at 7 am Pacific Time on Wednesdays.
If you would like to participate, please complete and sign the OMA3 Participation Agreement and use “BGA” as the organization code. Please review the agreement as well as the links therein as there are intellectual property implications to participating (as with almost all leading standards-making consortiums).
