Long known for its standing in the financial sector, Hong Kong is fast becoming a buoyant hub for the Web3 ecosystem. With solid regulations in place and attractive incentives for incorporation in HK, the framework enables Blockchain companies to operate in a secure way.

Alongside PwC, we hosted over 50 attendees to unpack the BGA State of the Industry Report and the web3 gaming ecosystem in Hong Kong. The event aimed to shed light on the ecosystem activities in Hong Kong, outline the benefits of Blockchain for gaming, educate, and discuss setting up a business in Hong Kong.

BGA Connects HK invited thought leaders, BGA members, and the wider community to discuss, network, and explore the Web3 gaming ecosystem in more depth. Several projects presented their activities and insights on the current industry advancements on the stage. Speakers such as Evan Auyang, Group President of Animoca Brands, Peter Brewin, Partner and Head of Web3 Practice APAC at PwC, Desmond Cheug, Business Development Manager at AWS, Erich Wong, Head of Growth (HK) at The Sandbox, and Karena Ngan Head of Marketing at Earn Alliance, as well as other projects Invest Hong Kong who focused their presentation on raising awareness of HK as a web3 hub and the benefits of incorporating a company there.

Key takeaways

  • Exploring Hong Kong as an attractive location to incorporate a Web3 business.
  • Ease of regulations and policy to enable Web3-based businesses.
  • Companies such as Animoca Brands, incorporated in Hong Kong, are leading the region in its growth and development of the wider ecosystem.
  • Gathering many BGA members to events like this and inviting industry professionals helps us raise awareness in the region, outline the benefits of Blockchain gaming, and enable connection and collaboration with other companies within Hong Kong.
  • As an organization that operates in a global market, it is interesting to see how each region is developing in terms of regulation, technical advancement, and innovation — and Hong Kong is definitely at the forefront of fostering these points.

Our first event of the year in Asia, we continue to foster collaboration in the region and at the international level. The BGA now has over 500 Web3 gaming professionals spanning the ecosystem and globe, and as the industry continues to take shape and evolve, we are excited to continue the BGA mission to raise awareness and promote blockchain technology for gaming.
