We’re pleased to bring you Episode #2 of our Founders in Focus series. A show that gives you unprecedented access to the most influential startup founders in the world of blockchain. We’re on a mission to educate and inform founders and investors on the current affairs of the blockchain industry, providing an accurate and up to date perspective on the competitive business environment, global investment landscape, and the leaders who are changing the game.

In this episode we sit down with Dr Jemma Green, co-founder and Chair of Power Ledger, a leading full stack energy blockchain technology company.

Tune in as we discuss:

  • The problem Jemma was trying to tackle and why blockchain was the right solution
  • Power Ledger’s rapid growth
  • How Power Ledger’s platform enables the new energy economy
  • Why Power Ledger chose Australia as a jurisdiction for their ICO and how they set themselves up to succeed

The Power Ledger is bringing Power Ledger’s P2P solar energy trading blockchain technology to the world. Power Ledger Pty Ltd allows renewable energy asset owners to decide who they want to sell their surplus energy to and at what price. Using blockchain technology we provide a transparent, auditable and automated market trading and clearing mechanism for the benefit of producers and consumers. Our technology enables the sale of surplus renewable energy generated at residential and commercial developments (including multi-unit/multi-tenanted) and at homes and businesses connected to existing electricity distribution networks, or within micro-grids. Power Ledger puts the power to manage the energy economy into the hands of consumers, while maintaining the value of existing distribution networks.

Jemma, as the Chair, provides the strategic external relations, risk management and leadership development for Power Ledger. Jemma has more than 15 years’ experience in finance and risk advisory having worked for 11 years in investment banking in London. Whilst there, she completed a Masters degree and two postgraduate diplomas from Cambridge University. Jemma is a research fellow at Curtin University Sustainability Policy (CUSP) Institute, whose doctoral research into “Citizen Utilities” has produced unique insights into the challenges and opportunities for the deployment of roof-top solar PV and battery storage within multi-unit developments and the application of the blockchain. Jemma is experienced in the challenges of sustainable cities through her role as an independent Councilor of the City of Perth. She is also the Chair of Climate-KIC Australia, a founder of the Global Blockchain Business Council and a contributor to Forbes on blockchain disruption.
