Blockchain Short Story 012: Do you need a Blockchain?

Numerous, more or less complex decision charts have been created to determine whether you need or don’t need a blockchain.

In my view, the pivotal question here is: “How to bring independent entities into a shared digital environment where they can frictionlessly do business with each other?”

If all parties can agree on a trusted third party to ensure the integrity of that shared environment, then all is well.

However, if this is not possible, with blockchain, we can now trade computational power to create a shared environment without the need for a trusted third party to ensure its integrity. This distribution of power, makes it easier for eventually competing participants to join the same environment, as they no longer need to fear losing their sovereignty.
