#WenSegWit?
Now SegWit.
Later this month, we will be rolling out support for native SegWit in the Blockchain.com Wallet across all platforms (iOS, Android, and Web). We’re excited to be able to bring SegWit to the Wallet, which accounts for roughly 33% of all bitcoin network transactions, as it should help improve network speed and reduce transaction costs.
How Will it Work?
As wallets are included in the rollout, they will begin sending change outputs to their wallet’s SegWit change chain by default; thus making these funds available to be automatically used as inputs in future transactions.
Receive addresses will also now default to Bech32. Legacy receive addresses will still be accessible for users needing to send into their Blockchain.com Wallet from services that do not yet support SegWit.
Wallets will now also be able to send to Bech32 addresses.
Do I need to do anything to enable SegWit?
No! You are automatically included.
How can I tell if my wallet has been upgraded yet?
If the Bitcoin address on the receive screen begins with ‘bc1’, congratulations, your wallet now supports SegWit!
If you are on your mobile device, make sure you’re running the latest version of Blockchain.com Wallet, available in the App Store and Google Play.
Why did it take you so long?
Since SegWit was introduced in late 2015, our user base has grown by over 60,000,000 Wallets and our products have transacted tens of billions of dollars worth of crypto. We’ve scaled our platform while also adding crypto assets, added fiat on and off ramps to give more people around the world access to crypto, introduced crypto-to-crypto swap, built an industry leading exchange, established an institutional grade custody system to keep your funds safe, and cultivated a team dedicated to making crypto accessible and easy to use for everyone. In short, we’ve been very, very busy.
Is this an April Fools joke?
No. 😉
