What is DeFi?
Decentralised Finance, known as DeFi, is an ever-evolving economic phenomenon based on blockchain technology. Defi provides the benefits of centralised finance offered by banks, brokerages, exchanges and intermediaries while eliminating some of the obstacles investors face by utilising smart contracts. Smart contracts are unique because they provide a trustless system — increasing trust, security, transparency and traceability.

Comprehensive Lending Platform
Users can lend their cryptocurrency to earn interest.
Borrowing
Allows users to provide collateral and receive a loan in either stablecoins, cryptocurrency or synthetic assets.
Professional Cross Chain Decentralised Exchange ~ DEX
A cross-chain enabled interoperable token exchange platform. Providing the convenience of exchanging tokens from different chains (Example: Ethereum to Bitcoin). It will allow the exchange of tokens, decentralised stable coins, synthetics and the ecosystem’s token.
Staking
The EQ Hub will allow staking of Proof of Stake ‘PoS’ and Decentralised Proof of Stake ‘DPoS’ assets in addition to the native equilibrium tokens.

Centralised Exchange functionalities ~
Spot market, margin trading and perpetuals providing a DEX with classic functionalities of a CEX that will drive users to engage with the platform.
Interoperability ~
Being a project built on Polkadot, it will have interoperability with other chains from day one. This feature will exceed the performance of centralised exchanges by utilising the additional benefits offered by DeFi.
Lowest collateralization requirements ~
One of the significant advantages of Equilibrium is in lending. Usually, you have to invest collateral to borrow a regular or synthetic asset, which in DeFi has been excessive to date. For example, in Synthetix, if you want to borrow $XXX, you have to put down 600%, in Maker 150% and Compound 133%.
With Equilibrium, you only have to borrow 105%, and you can go as low as 100%. This is possible thanks to implementing the bailout system, which covers a lack of liquidity to avoid moments of insolvency.
Basket collateral ~
Another advantage of Equilibrium is the security of your collateral. While other platforms only allow you to use one cryptocurrency as collateral, Equilibrium will enable you to offer a set of cryptocurrencies, thus reducing the risk of volatility.
Programmatic interest rates ~
DeFi users are subject to paying a flat annual interest rate. However, Equilibrium lets borrowers reduce their interest fees by increasing their collateral and making their positions safer.
Innovation Hub ~
In addition, Equilibrium will have its visionary Hub in Genshiro (Kusama), where the platform will innovate by integrating new DeFi applications without affecting Equilibrium’s core network.
