What is proxy voting on EOS?

Don’t have the time to research all the block producers yourself, but you still want to vote? Then proxy voting might be what you are looking for.

Setting someone as your proxy means you give them the authority to vote on your behalf. A proxy can be someone you know or someone else you trust to vote on your behalf.

How to set someone as your proxy?

There are various ways to set someone as your proxy, below we will describe how to set someone as your proxy using cleos or using a toolkit and Scatter.

How to set someone as your proxy using cleos?

To set someone as your proxy using cleos you have to run the following command:

$ cleos system voteproducer proxy accountnum12 proxyvoter12

Here, accountnum12 has proxied their vote to proxyvoter12.

How to set someone as your proxy using a toolkit?

To set someone as your proxy using a toolkit you first need to install the Scatter browser extension, which you can get here. After you have installed Scatter and imported your wallet or have created a new wallet using Scatter, you can go to https://eostoolkit.io/vote/setproxy, or any other toolkit, like https://www.myeoskit.com/#/tools/proxy or https://eosvoter.eosphere.io, and attach your Scatter account.

After you have connected your Scatter wallet you can go to ‘Manage Voting’ and choose ‘Set Proxy’. The screen below should appear and you can set your proxy.

To register as a proxy you have to run the following command:

$ cleos system regproxy proxyvoter12

Here, proxyvoter12 has been registered as a proxy.

To register as a proxy using a toolkit go to https://eostoolkit.io/vote/beproxy, or any other toolkit, like https://www.myeoskit.com/#/tools/proxy or https://eosvoter.eosphere.io, and connect your Scatter account (for instructions scroll up). After you have connected your Scatter account you can register as a proxy.
