Blocklancer says “Goodbye” to Slack — migrating to Rocket.Chat

The Blocklancer Team decided to migrate to Rocket.Chat in the upcoming week. Our official Rocket.Chat channel is already accessible via chat.blocklancer.net. During the transition phase our Slack channel will still be active, but the Slack channel will be shut down in 14 days.

Why are we leaving

In the beginning, Slack was the tool of choice for many crypto-projects. Slack has an easy-to-use interface and therefore worked very well as open communication channel. Unfortunately bad actors appeared, who abused the open Slack channels of many crypto-projects. Slack becomes more and more unsustainable due to massive spam, scam and phishing attempts. Some of our community members reported that they received 100+ spam messages from Slack in a single day. Often these messages include hyperlinks to malicious websites like faked myEtherWallet webpages. Especially harmful and annoying were the messages that were directly sent from the slack-bot. Unfortunately Slack provides no settings to deactivate the slack-bot, therefore the bot can be used for bad behavior by any actor.

There was a big discussion in the cryptocommunity and projects like Aragon, OmiseGo and Golem openly discussed alternatives to Slack. There was a consensus that Rocket.Chat provides the best opportunities for open crypto-projects. Rocket.Chat is highly configurable and allows fine-grained permission management.

· Beginning today the Blocklancer team will transition daily discussion to https://chat.blocklancer.net.

· The Blocklancer Slack will remain open for 14 days during the transition to Rocket.Chat.

· Channels in the Blocklancer Slack will be updated to become read-only during this transition, and will include announcements about the transition.
