If you are an author in the 21st century, most probably you have considered to publish your work as an eBook, if you haven’t already.

There are distinct benefits in doing so, both for you and the readers: they can easily obtain you book with a simple download, eBooks are more easily updated and upgraded, they are portable, they are eco-friendly, you can custom brand them, and the list could become extensively long.

Yet, there are some drawbacks, known to most authors that have decided to go along the internet selling path. Some of these are listed below:

Use marketplaces

Most authors choose to sell their eBooks through various platforms or marketplaces such Amazon (the most reputable with great exposure for the authors), Payhip, Barnes, Noble, Blurb and others. Reason for that, are the standardised tools they offer plus the opportunity for the author to reach a bigger audience. On the downside, the author is not granted with the full profit and a substantial part of it, is retained by the marketpace.

Sell directly

This may seem like a no brainer but if you are selling eBooks through your own website, you get to keep most of the profits. Taking into account how easy it is nowdays to create your own webiste and eshop, the only thing left is your imagination, your expertise and skills in writing. Although this approach may seem as trouble-free, it still has a serious drawback: high fees when using PayPal or delayed and high transaction fees for receiving direct e-banking payments.

Creators of any type of digital files, face similar issues. No matter if someone is trying to sell an eBook, a photograph, a video, or an illustration, traditional market places and existing banking system have set the rules for years and they seriously profit out of them.

This is why BlockLicense is so important. It has a real-life applicability and it solves some of the greatest issues in the digital market: ownership and direct funding.

But, lets start with the basics:

What is BlockLicense?

BlockLicense is a new project built by tech savvy experts, targeting the simple world. It is an application that can either run in your PC as an app or it can have the form of a widget or google chrome extension, where you can drag and drop your file, choose a/or your license, place your price and save. Both license and price are now recorded in the file.

This allows any potential buyer in the internet to read the file through BlockLicense, purchase it, or make donation to the author (if the digital file is distributed for free) for using it: and all these instantly! At the same time, the buyer is fully informed about the copyrights of the digital file, since all these information along with the price, are stored in the file’s backbone and follow it no matter how and where the file is distributed.

Why is BlockLicense so important?

Because it creates a new opportunity for all creators of digital files, to own their work and monetize it.

In addition, it does not require any computing skills or certain knowledge to use BlockLicense. On the contrary, it is pretty straightforward and self-explanatory: it is simple.

Then, all transactions in BlockLicense are instant since the project is built on Ethereum blockchain. The file becomes a single entity that contains all relevant information added by the creator, including the public key, the equivalent of an IBAN. In this way, fast transactions are enabled and paid in BLC — BlockLicense issued tokens, which are available in minutes.

So, if the file serves as an IBAN then, where are the funds stored?

in BlockLicense itself, or in the creator’s wallet of choice. BlockLicense app is not only a licensing and funding facilitator, but also a wallet or the equivalent of a savings account.

Creators or buyers, have an overview of their funds received or stored, they can send them to other wallets or even send them to exchanges to convert them back in to fiat currencies. Literally, there are very few things or none, that are not available in the BlockLicense app.

How does BlockLicense offer security?

BlockLicense has the power to bulletproof any digital file since all data stored in the file are saved through the BlockLicense smart contracts, and are permanently stored in the Ethereum blockchain, thus provinding the guarantee and proof of ownership.

In practical terms, if any internet user is misusing or take someone’s else work for his/her own, the original creator can prove ownesrhip and take legal actions if needed.

No matter if you are an author, a photographer, a musician, a designer or someone else who just creates his own digital files for hobby or profession, with BlockLicense, you are now able to monetize and protect your work.

According to BlockLicense roadmap, pre-Sale will start in Q2 2018, giving the chance for early contributors and users to become part of the community.
