- What is blocksurvey.org?
BlockSurvey allows users to easily create surveys, polls, and forms with complete confidentiality. We enable peer to peer collection of data in an encrypted way, without the middle man, and without any censorship. We ensure anonymity is maintained for all answers and by this, we believe more honest answering and participation can take place. BlockSurvey enables you to conduct surveys which are sensitive in nature with confidence. Insights / Results gathered remains with the creator alone and not with a third party.
2. Why blocksurvey.org and how it got created?
BlockSurvey came out as an idea from Can’t Be Evil Hackathon held on June 2019 under the theme Web 3.0 / Society 3.0. We strongly believe in protecting people’s digital rights and wanted to share our part in building a better web for future.
3. How to create a survey on blocksurvey.org?
You can create a survey by logging in using Blockstack ID. You can sign up for the first time through Blockstack ID creation. If you are signing up for the first time, ensure you have backed up your recovery codes from the Blockstack profile section for future reference.
4. How to answer the survey?
You can answer the survey using the web link or QR code shared in an anonymous way. All the data is encrypted and sent to the survey creator. Only the creator can see it. Identity is not revealed to the creator. For further levels of anonymity, we recommend the use of Brave or Tor browser for location privacy.
5. What are the benefits of decentralized survey/pool/feedback tool?
a) Allows peer to peer collection of data, without the middle man. There is no censorship anytime.
b) Anonymity maintained for all answers. This leads to more honest answering and participation. Surveys which are sensitive in nature can be carried out with confidence.
c) Insights / Results gathered remains with the creator in an encrypted way. Others cannot access without the users key. Data is secure. More like cryptocurrencies.
d) All the data produced can be monetized if made public. By this, the creators and takers get their share for the work done. This could be the creation of decentralized data exchange in a peer to peer data economy.
6. How are the privacy and anonymity maintained in BlockSurvey?
a) Data Privacy and Data Anonymity
BlockSurvey facilitated Surveys and polls are done in a peer to peer encrypted way. This is feasible because of the underlying blockchain platform called BlockStack. This encrypted way of data sharing, the app providers cannot gain insights into the data produced since it is encrypted and not stored on the central server. Only the creators of the surveys alone will be able to see the results using their key. It is private always. This leads to data privacy and anonymity where data gathering, surveillance, and censorship is not possible on the data.
b) Identity Anonymity:
During answer collection, creators wouldn’t know who has answered if done anonymously as we don’t get user information. If user signs in and takes the survey, they are volunteering to share their information. This is helpful only if we use this platform as more as a questionnaire to conduct exams and so on. Location of the users taking surveys is not known to the creators. This is something we are advocating users to use browsers like Brave or Tor to start with. Eventually, we are experimenting at our side to integrate with our product such that identity is not revealed by location. This could help in a big way for Whistleblowing apps within organizations.
