I actually met Justin before I ever knew Leesa. It was one of the first days of 5th grade, I was new to the school and sat across from him. He read my name tag and said “Brooke Carlyle? That sounds like Brooke Car-Liar!”

Yes Justin, that is my first memory of you; but I promise through the years, mostly with time spent together in band, and jazz band, and marching band, and basically any kind of bad possible — my impression of you has improved drastically.

Leesa and I met shortly after that — I believe it was the same year when she and our friend Collin over there welcomed me with open arms to their math competition team. I have no idea how we did that day, but I knew I’d never forget Leesa McCall.

Leesa — over the years you and I have had some pretty great times. Mary and Greg, I don’t know if she ever told you about the time she let me drive the safari van before I. had my license. I mean, I guess we didn’t need to tell you, because no one was hurt and nothing was damaged!

I’d like to think that I have my life put together pretty well these days, but that hasn’t always been the case. But Leesa, you’ve been there with me every step of the way. The highs and the lows, the good times and the bad, you’ve always been the definition of a friend. You’ve rescued me without criticism. Listened without judgement. And laughed with me until we’ve cried.

A popular teaching book that I reference a lot is called “teaching with love and logic.” Leesa — thats you. The perfect mix of love and logic. You have always been my voice of reason.

Justin, you are one incredibly lucky man. But, I have a feeling you know that already. Thank you both for allowing me to be part of your special day. I wish you both the best that life has to offer. Cheers!
