Family can be one of the reasons to pursue a particular sport, especially when they introduce and guide you to become a better athlete.

The bloodline of athletes running through their veins has fueled these two volleyball players to strive for their best achievements, bringing pride to their families and proving themselves with their abilities. Here is the inspiring story of Indonesian volleyball athletes who have successfully demonstrated their skills and achieved remarkable accomplishments.

Angelina Sualang (20 Years Old)

Born into a family involved in the world of sports, Angel didn’t immediately enter the volleyball scene. Instead, she tried her hand at various sports such as swimming, badminton, karate, and even table tennis.

After exploring various sports, Angel finally found her passion in volleyball, a sport that was well-received by her father, who is also a volleyball player.

One of the reasons Angel pursued volleyball is the comfort she feels while training and the opportunity to meet new people from diverse backgrounds.

Although coming from an athletic family background, her journey as a volleyball player was not without challenges. Angel often faced hurtful criticism when her team experienced defeat or received harsh evaluations from the coach.

However, these setbacks and criticisms became her motivation to improve and give her best performance. They propelled her team to victory in the Livoli tournament, secured first place in the U-17 IKOBA competition, and earned her a spot in the Proliga, the Professional Volleyball League.

Johan Frederick Sanger (21 Years Old)

Johan’s introduction to volleyball came from a family with a long line of volleyball players, although initially, he chose to play futsal.

His perspective on the world of volleyball changed when he witnessed his cousin, who had already been involved in the sport, enjoying numerous awards and opportunities to play in other cities for free.

This became Johan’s motivation to start training in volleyball, eventually representing the Voli Bank Jateng club and becoming a volleyball athlete representing Jakarta in the PON (National Games).

His success also owes much to the support of his family, who motivated and advised him to stay determined in his volleyball career.

Behind his achievements, Johan learned a lot about understanding his teammates’ characters to achieve desired results. He also learned to cope with missing his parents when they were far away.

On the other hand, Johan, known as an athlete, proved that he could balance his career and education. He managed to earn a scholarship at Trisakti University, allowing him to pursue his studies without financial burden while representing his alma mater.

Looking ahead, Johan hopes to lead Jakarta to the Pra Pon (Pre-National Games) and compete in the Proliga. He also aims to complete his education, which was momentarily put on hold.

Moreover, Johan aspires to enhance his skills by training abroad and receiving professional guidance to reach new heights in his volleyball career.
