Pics.io Release Notes — 28 Feb 2019

Keywords, lightboards, preview for AI files, etc.

Every new release in Pics.io is unlike another. There are times when we release something really big and ground-breaking, such as Auto-Sync or Add-ons for G Suite. And there are times when the development team is busy fixing and polishing the service.

Our most recent release in Pics.io has been just about it — fixing and making sure that everything works the way it should.

Here’s a brief account of what has been improved.

1. Attaching keywords — easier than before

It has become much easier to attach more than one keywords in the Infopanel. Now you can simply type all the keywords you need separating them with commas. Or copy & paste them from somewhere.

Easy keywording in Pics.io

Words separated by commas will become keywords attached to your file. And Pics.io will add them to your library of keywords.

By the way, if you have a feeling that you don’t use your keywords and metadata to their full capacity — we have something for you. Some time ago we wrote an e-book on corporate taxonomy and metadata management. Follow the link and get your free copy.

2. Lightboards — better and clear sorting

The situation used to be like this. Every time you created a new lightboard, they used to pile up in the order you generated them. As a result, you ended up with a heap of randomly assorted folders what was difficult to navigate.

Now, we sort all lightboards in the alphabetical order. Whenever you add something new, the list of lightboards is rearranged automatically, and you can easily find what you need.

Caught yourself wondering what lightboards are all about? Putting it short, a lightboard is a private collection that you can create in Pics.io and it will be invisible to any other person on your team.

Welcome to learn more how you can leverage lightboards in your daily working routine.

3. Preview for AI files

AI is the extension for files created with Adobe Illustrator. It’s a vector editing program commonly used to design logos and print media.

Yes, Pics.io works with any file format, it would be a lie to say that all files are equally easy to process.

The truth is that AI is one of those formats which are very difficult to process for a non-Adobe service. Especially those that were initially converted from PDF.

These vector files contain various objects (paths, rectangles, etc.), some of which may be transparent. Generating preview for such files can be a real challenge indeed.

Our dev team, however, managed to crack this hard nut. We’ve discovered how we can generate thumbnails for AI files in a better way. So, now you can be sure that the preview of your AI assets in Pics.io shows exactly the way they are.

And here’s a link for those what want to know what other file formats are supported in Pics.io.

4. Upload from iPad

Some of our users were so kind to let us know that they had some issues as they tried to upload files on their iPads. Indeed, there was a problem with drag and drop.

We certainly couldn’t leave it as it is. The problem was quickly detected and fixed. Now you can upload assets to your DAM library on the go, with a simple swipe of your finger.

And we believe it’s great.

What else in this release?

We have fixed a number of miscellaneous issues too. For example, our UX/UI designer has improved the general look and feel of the custom fields schema. And we’ve also improved navigation for video assets and coped with some minor issues with downloading. On mobile devices, in particular.

And the last but not the least improvement. We’ve upgraded to the latest Express 4. It’s a Node.js web application framework that improves the server stability, security, and the overall performance of Pics.io.

Stay tuned for more news from Pics.io soon. And we are always open to your suggestions, recommendations, and requests.
