Who has time for this?

It happened again

It has happened again. Unexpectedly, of course. Not as I would have planned it, neither as I envisioned it this year (or any year for that matter).

The schedule is full with no evidence of offering a glimmer of “down time” to simply contemplate this astounding thing that has happened; “The Word became flesh and blood and moved into the neighborhood.” (John 1:14 as rendered in “The Message”)

As if the schedule weren’t enough in and of itself there is the annual task of dragging down all the decorations with all of their accumulated stories: the music box Aunt Tammy gave us, the lone surviving “first” ornament, the Nikki-dog bell, Hattie’s handmade collection, and the pickle. I am thoroughly astounded that we are able to store so many stories in such a small closet!

And never mind that the dog has to be fed, the water bill paid on time (they’re awfully “ticky” about this in our village), the steps must be swept, and the garbage has to be at the curb again on Monday morning.

There it was. Right in the midst of my busiest moment of the week, as if I had time to stop and really consider it. But once it happened there was nothing else to do but stop and consider it. He has come. He is coming.
