I’m a big fan of Token. His song Doozy caught my attention with his clever wordplay and fast rapping style. The first thing I did was google the rapper to figure out more about him. To my surprise, no Wikipedia page was found.

In this day and age, it seems a given that anyone of note should have their own Wikipedia page. There’s a Wikipedia page for almost every subject you can think of. There are currently 47,764,845 articles with 5,860,096 articles in English alone. And there is not a single article on a man who garners over 57 million total views on YouTube? His recent hit “YouTube Rapper” featuring Tech N9ne stands at 8,983,256 views at the writing of this article. The video was released on February 1st, 2019.

There are other pages that have given their best summary of Token’s rap career, but none as high quality as what the populace has come to expect of Wikipedia. This is first page that comes up when I searched “token rapper wikipedia” on Google. Not exactly in depth with the amount of music Token has released.

There are other rappers that have a similar following that have Token has who have their own pages on Wikipedia, such as Roddy Ricch and Ski Mask the Slump God. On YouTube, Token seems to have roughly the same amount of subscribers as both of those rappers, but his views are less than theirs. It could be something about Token being an independent artist while the others have labels representing them with larger advertising budgets.

There are a few things that make sense regarding Token’s lack of Wikipedia page. Perhaps he is not popular enough to have one of his own? Perhaps every time someone creates one, he requests it taken down? The first one doesn’t seem very plausible considering there’s very obscure articles all over Wikipedia including a page on “Small Penis Rule” and “Sex in Space.” The second one leads one to wonder why someone would do that when their entire future depends on more and more exposure?

It doesn’t seem like there’s a clear answer to this question. All the sources I have found say nothing about this which I suppose isn’t something most people would even notice. I wonder if I make him his own Wikipedia page, that will lead to more answers…

I found that in order to create a Wikipedia page your account must be more than four days old and have made at least ten edits. Which means for the scope of this article, I have reached a dead end. I will continue this investigation in a future article once my account is able to create the page.

To Be Continued.
