In my last post I discussed the top DJ’s in the industry and gave some input on what makes them special. I’m now going to discuss where these DJ’s made a name for themselves and pull back the curtain to show you what these music festivals really entail.

The 2 musical festivals I’m going to talk about are the best and biggest in the world and both offer an unbelievable experience.

Name: Electric Daisy Carnival

Location: Las Vegas, Nevada

2015 Attendance: 405,000

Event number of days: 3

Ticket Price: $430

As the day’s vivid colors give way to the night’s neon dreamscapes, our imaginations come alive. Each area within EDC represents a different union of technology and nature. For example, cosmicMEADOW is a stage where people commune on the lush grass of a field and the stage is decorated with different elements of nature. The music played on this stage reflects that and is mostly chill house/tropical house with more soothing melodies and beats. The exact opposite of that is a few stages away called circuitGROUNDS. This stage fills the sky with unimaginable colors and lights along with powerful beats that are sure to amplify the atmosphere.

What separates EDC Las Vegas from other music festivals is their abundance of carnival rides and art. They have glow in the dark bumper cars, roller coasters, neon ferris wheels, and much more. The art is prevalent from the second you step through the gates. You enter a world of fire-breathing metal creatures, three-dimensional wooden superstructures, and colorful glow-in-the-dark environments. A vital part of the experience, the interactive art installations scattered throughout EDC are bridges we construct between nature and technology. EDC Las Vegas does an exemplary job of using many different mediums to share their message of imagination, inspiration, and beauty. This deep passion for music and art led to the creation of the documentary film called Under The Electric Sky about the festival and culture of EDC. The film was premiered at Sundance Film Festival in 2014.

Name: Tomorrowland

Location: Boom, Belgium

2014 Attendance: 360,000

Event Number of Days: 3

Ticket Price: $400–$1000 (depending on camping location)

Tomorrowland is designed as a fairy-tale city of the future and incorporates aspects of nature, along with thought provoking designs. Tomorrowland is Europe’s largest EDM music festival, but is held in a town with a population roughly 1/20th of the attendance of the music festival. It’s because of this that attendees feel as if they have entered a hidden world as soon as they enter the majestic grounds. The grounds span tens of acres and are filled beautiful nature aspects such as: lakes, forests, and even a waterfall. Tomorrowland embraces the natural beauty of the location and works that into the design of the grounds for their camping and stages. The stages are designed with the philosophy of making peoples dreams come to life. Each stage is massive and has a design unparalleled to any other stage in the world. They have such themes as the story books depicted above, as well as: flying butterflies, fairy-tale castles, and erupting volcanoes. Each stage is a work of art in itself. Over 400 DJ’s perform on 15 main stages during the 3 day span of this festival. Tomorrowland is the holy grail for EDM DJ’s and many of the worlds most prominent DJ’s got their big break here.

Tomorrowland is referred to as the world cup of dance music in an article by billboard. This is a very fitting comparison because the world cup is about much more than soccer, just as Tomorrowland is about more than music. It unites all the nations that are involved and provides them with a common purpose. Tomorrowland draws in attendees from over 75 different countries, and music is the common language that unites them all. You eat, sleep, and rave with people from all over the world each day. You share camping grounds and make friends with people from countries you’ve never even heard of. You cheer on each countries home DJ’s and become a fan yourself. Tomorrowland is just as much a uniting of cultures as it is a music festival.

These festivals are some of the most unique and life changing experiences a person can have. With that being said, I would check out Blog.Vegas.com to see what you’re getting yourself into and make sure you have a fun and safe experience.
