Miguel de Cervantes begins the first book of Don Quixote with the following phrase “En un lugar de la Mancha, de cuyo nombre no quiero acordarme,…” The last 400 years specialists and fans have sought to answer the questions: What place is that one? and why does its narrator want to forget it? Spanish researchers Francisco José Valera (lawyer) and Alvaro Anguix (cartographer) have solved these mysteries and show us their journey through the keys hidden in Cervantes’s novel. To determine Don Quijote’s home used a geographic information system developed in Spain called gvSIG, one of the most interesting free GIS today.
