Introduction to Self- Improvement

Self Improvement or Personality development is one of the most popular and speculative topics. If we talk about the nature of this niche, we can simply say that it is subjective by nature. Psychologists interpret it in a different perspective whereas, our parents will have a separate view of this but for me, the process in which we first explore ourselves then we accept it with all its flaws and mistakes and then we tend to change it to get the specific consequences or to achieve some specific goals and or to target particular weaknesses to turn them into strengths.

Self-improvement doesn’t require an age limit rather, one is never too old to learn. You can learn at any place, at any time, and from anyone. But what are the things we mainly target in self- improvement? Well, there is no limit to it, it is quite an exquisite topic to have a conversation on or to discuss and to target various departments on it. I think that as people talk about grooming the personality needs to groom your appearance as well, self- improvement inculcates that too but in the inception of self- improvement, it is all about recognizing, polishing and enhancing the talents and skills you are gifted with. In short, it deals with all the aspects of development such as:

  • Physical Development
  • Psychological development
  • Cognitive Development
  • Social Development

As improvement deals from physical to emotional aspects, let’s discuss a few tips of self- improvement.

5 Tips of Self- Improvement

1. Retention of Experience and Knowledge

The first and foremost tip is to possess the experiences and knowledge you own but with logic or reasoning. For instance, if a student passes an exam of Science by the highest marks and when he is exhibited to explain any concept or core of a topic to someone else’s and he fails at it or fears to attempt to do so then his personality will not affect that much longer on someone’s mind. So, to improve oneself one not has to keep on holding the knowledge and experience rather, to practice it on others and learn from past experiences as well.

2. Exposure to Learning

Learning is the key to success but it never means that learning can only be done in schools, colleges or universities rather, it can be done anywhere. As we all are acquainted with the three types of Education; Formal Education, Non- formal Education and Informal Education. These types actually distinct the learning methodology we all fall in, for instance, one of the oldest methods of learning is informal education. In this methodology, we learn from the people in the community, from our friends, from various articles and from reading several books. Similarly, if one exposes oneself to learning new things from literally anyone, one gets a higher knowledge and experience thus, one can improve one’s self.

3. Speaking and Communication Skills

Another thing which benefits a person in almost all fields of life is to be exquisite in speaking and communication. A lot of people, when exposed to the environment get panicked or start to have a social phobia that can result in a problematic day-to-day activity such as; communicating with people, attending classes, presenting on any topic or meeting new people. If one improves his speaking and communication skills, one can have a better social life and its benefits. How can one improve these skills?

  • Start a conversation
  • Speak affront mirror
  • Practice speaking difficult words
  • Listen more

4. Be Logical and Clear

If a person tries to improve oneself and he tries to participate in public speak to develop better public relations, one starts to become more clear in his words and be logical. The world has succeeded so much in all these years still we find people at the time who walks on the same tread of superstitions and illogics. All the Philosophers, who have passed and all the scientists, who worked on a particular theory for a hundred thousand years just wanted to spread the significance of “Logic” and “Reasoning.” They always wanted to prove that there is a “cause” behind every happening.

People find it difficult to be logical but frankly speaking, even your slight clarity in words and logic can make the simple sentence a scientifically searched and proven fact or figure. And do you find it difficult? There is a solution. For example, if you are a smoker and a person tells you that “Smoking causes death”, will it intrigue you to leave the cigarettes, not at all but similarly, if a person comes to you and he has researched on this and he executes the sentence like “Smoking damages your lungs and it causes lungs cancer and “according to research” it is proven that almost 84% of deaths happened because of the lung cancer.”

This is what logic does.

5. Be Yourself

“Depression is a common mental disorder. Globally, more than 264 million people of all ages suffer from depression.”

-World Health Organization

We see a lot of people who suffer from depression and there are various reasons for that, can be disorders, fears, complexes, obsessions, phobia and so on… What exactly happens? They stop caring about themselves and as a result, they fall into depression. The major reason for this is the lack of appropriate “counseling.” We all are familiar with this terminology but a few really care to take it seriously. God has made this world and made us humans (in pairs) such as; a family, parents, friends, relatives and at the end our partner just because we can help each other with their problems.

But so fewer people are willing to do that. Another reason for it is to suffer an inferiority complex. One suffers this complex when one starts to have identity issues and one starts to become insecure from a person with better qualities than him or her. This complex is so rigid that a person can have it from partner, family, siblings or friends. And the solution for that is simple; Self-love. If a person starts to accept the fact that cognitive growth comes up with age then everything starts to make sense. Perhaps, one cannot think as their elder brother or at the age of ten, when they are 15 but soon, they can achieve all that knowledge and experience too with the passage of time.

So, be yourself and stay comfortable in who you are and what you have and that is the only ladder to self- improvement, and care. And always remember, if this world is too cruel to you that they can take all your materialistic things from you still remember, the only thing that will be left with you is yourself, one true and exquisite self.
