Blogging walks into a bar and…
…meets advertising. They talk, share stories, hit it off, and a few years later… blogvertising was born.
This publication is intended to highlight notable advertising content in the media. Everyone loves a good commercial, but there is so much more to the field than what customers see on TV during the Superbowl. The internet is full of creative content that risks going unseen unless you’re an ad nerd like me. Sites like AdAge, AdWeek and Mashable focus on the best content in the industry; this blog focuses on the best of the best (how many “bests” can you fit into one sentence?).
A brief backstory on blogvertising’s parents, blogging and advertising:
Blogging was introduced to the world wide web in 1994 by a fine young gent named Justin Hall. This “blog” was more of a personal homepage titled Links.net. For your reading pleasure, here is a direct quote from his site: “I got oodles of love to give back to the net”.
Blogging matured a bit in 1997 when Jorn Barger coined the process as “logging the web” which in turn was called weblog (do you see where we are going with this)…which, you guessed it, was then shortened to blog. Time travel almost 20 years later where blogs are now everywhere and range across just about every industry.
Advertising dates back much earlier than blogging. The first signs of advertising appeared in the 1700’s when the Boston Newsletter advertised a real estate property and Benjamin Franklin created an advertisements section in his Pennsylvania Gazette. Advertisements are everywhere. From the moment you wake up and scroll through your social media feeds, to when you get into the car on the way home from work and are surrounded by billboards. Advertising is a powerful mechanism and strongly influences our daily purchasing habits.
