Artificial Intelligence (AI), from the top of the iceberg

I want to write this entry as an introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI) because this discipline that was born in 1956 would take a huge chapter to write if we were deeper.

Inteligencia Artificial (IA): Desde la punta del iceberg

Seré algo breve al escribir sobre Inteligencia Artificial, pues esta disciplina que nació en 1956 llevaría un capítulo enorme si fuéramos a ser mucho más profundos.

Recuerdo que en la universidad, algo más de 10 años, nos enseñaban este tema enfocados en la posibilidad de que una máquina simulara la inteligencia humana. Lo anterior no es más que el concepto que se considera como “IA en general”

Definición

Dejo para el registro la definición de IA en Wikipedia: AI se define como el estudio de “agentes inteligentes”: cualquier dispositivo que percibe su entorno y toma acciones que maximizan sus posibilidades de éxito en algún objetivo. Coloquialmente, el término “inteligencia artificial” se aplica cuando una máquina imita funciones “cognitivas” que los seres humanos asocian con otros entendimientos humanos, tales como “aprendizaje” y “resolución de problemas”.

Importancia hoy en día

Con el tiempo se han establecido servicios y sistemas para la mejora de las actividades de nosotros los humanos, reduciendo el esfuerzo y procesando con precisión y rapidez algunas necesidades que desarrollamos cada día.

Además, el desarrollo de la IA se da después que dos aspectos de la inteligencia artificial se desarrollaran con fuerza, el primero el aprendizaje de máquina (Machine Learning) y segundo el aprendizaje profundo (Deep Learning). De ambas hablaremos próximamente en otro artículo.

La importancia de la IA hoy en día es gracias también a la capacidad de las unidades de procesamiento graficas a trabajos en paralelo, ya que permite procesar información más rápido, más barato y más potente, asunto que había sido una necesidad de años atrás. Así mismo de la gran capacidad de almacenamiento disponible en la nube y la necesidad de Big Data para almacenar y analizar información.

Futuro

La IA es una de las disciplinas que estará posicionada en todas partes en los próximos años. La computación cuántica romperá los límites de la IA y las empresas incluirán la inteligencia artificial en sus procesos, de no ser así posiblemente desaparecerán.

Los servicios, agentes y máquinas que implementan la IA irán en aumento. Los vehículos autónomos llegarán a nuestras casas, la salud de los humanos se beneficiará en la medida que la IA apoye en el diagnóstico y tratamiento de algunas enfermedades, así como para encontrar la cura de otras.
