Helping Music Publishers claim royalties and save time from manual matching & usage reports

If you work in royalty and income tracking, then you no doubt have a lot on your plate each day. But wouldn’t it be great if you could automate one of those daily tasks to maximise efficiency and save time?

Our music publisher clients tell us they often spend a lot of time going through lists of recordings and checking whether they control the underlying publishing rights. For example, you may have received a list of usage from a DSP which you would work through to check how many songs are yours in order to generate a claim. Or you might be trying to identify matches to your catalogue in unclaimed or unmatched royalty files.

Income tracking managers tell us that it can take a whole day to manually find accurate songwriter and publisher information for 80 tracks. That would be 12 days for a list of 1000 recordings! That’s time that often isn’t available if you’ve got many other tasks on your list to do.

The good news is, there is a solution!

The solution

Blokur’s Drag and Drop matching tool enables you to match thousands of recordings to the underlying copyright information in minutes! Get those results in less than a minute for up to 1000 recordings! That means you can easily scan through the list to see if your publisher name appears or to verify splits.

How does it work?

Simply upload a .csv or .tsv file (these can be exported from Excel, Google Sheets or Numbers) containing the title, artist and ISRC for the recordings for which you need to identify the underlying copyright information. Using our unique sub-graph matching technology, the file is processed, returning the results in just a minute.

Here’s a useful short explainer video:

What do I get?

You’ll get back a report showing you the publisher names, songwriters and mechanical shares for the underlying composition for any recording that is matched.

This will help you identify which recordings you can claim royalties for, or which you need to include in your invoice to any third parties for usage, saving you time from having to manually search each individual track.

The feature can also help if you’re a royalty coordinator who needs to verify manual matches. On average a royalty coordinator will match around 100 lines a day. With Drag and Drop this can be supercharged to 1000 in less than a minute. This frees up more time for you to focus on other areas and helps maximise efficiency on what would otherwise be a tedious task.
