Beta users of the Blokur platform will have noticed that things are looking a little different around here. Well, I’m proud to report that we are no longer in Beta, and that Blokur 1.0 has launched.

So what’s new? During the beta phase we have been working hard to bring both music publishers and music users new functionality and improvements based on your feedback. The upgrades are too many to cram into a short blog, but here are three things for music publishers to look out for in the new Blokur.

1. Integration with societies

One of the most common pieces of feedback we received from music publishers was that you would like to be able to send data that has been updated in Blokur to collecting societies. You can now choose to deliver the results of counterclaims to all major collecting societies with a click of a mouse.

This makes Blokur a global alert system for copyright conflicts that allows music publishers not only to resolve conflicts for all territories in one place, but to make sure that corrected data makes its way into collecting society databases. And it prevents you from having to manage all of those different email chains with publisher and society counter-parties.

2. Graph matching

Perhaps the biggest cause of missed revenue and undetected rights conflicts is poor matching. When an ISWC is present (and correct) the match is easy. But in our experience only about 30% of the songs in publisher databases have an ISWC. And when there is no ISWC, more often than not the song has to be matched manually or isn’t matched at all.

Blokur now uses our new graph-based matching, which ensures that your song registration will be matched to what other publishers are claiming for that song with or without an ISWC. You can read more about how this works here.

Blokur’s new graph based matching maps the relationships between data entities to generate more, more accurate matches

3. Commercial insights

Blokur’s new dashboard automatically highlights conflicts and counterclaims that are likely to be having the greatest impact on revenue. We use usage information from streaming services to let you know the top three things you can do to get immediate value from Blokur.

Not only that, but music publishers subscribing to Blokur Insights can now dig into the performance of their catalogue across global streaming services using our new Performance module. Performance tracks which recordings of your songs appear in the top charts of Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube and Shazam in up to 250 territories. And by combining this information with your song splits, Blokur generates a True Market Share, which can come in very handy during licensing negotiations and royalty claims.

If you already have a Blokur music publisher account, why not log in to check out these new features.
