Dear Mon

A Letter Un-Read

Call of the blue, Painting by Monoreena

Dear Mon,

I saw you at a distance.
Lazily busy to find shade,
The palm by the beach, it had to be —
I knew.
Your straw hat thrown carelessly
on the sand
Your nimble fingers unmindfully
drumming on them —
Lucky hat!
That sun-loved face
slashed by your sea-tempered
tresses,
hanging loosely on your
shoulders —
I want to be them!
Your sand-messed toes
digging into the ochery
beach,
You, lost in your thoughts…

I approached you, dressed in
Platho-Teal, my thoughts throbbing,
Roaring, I lashed on the beach
My frothy ivory crown, poseur,

You turned your face and looked —
I want to believe, Me.

Will you ever know the efforts I made
to reach you, my pearly fizz stretching
to caress your feet soft,

You lifted your foot — moist,
fluttering your toes, smiling
And we met.

Now, I see those feet rambling back,
Sands marking the moment,
Your back to the Sun,
Beams scorching my skin
And my heart warm with hopes
for tomorrow…

Yours loving,
That Wave

P.S.I professed my love to you today, wondering if you realized. So keeping my note in this bottle by the beach, wishing tomorrow will be the Day.

This is in response to a beautiful prompt floated by Penelope Mayfield named “Poem in a bottle.”
