Makeup hacks for long hours

Wearing makeup daily is like going to bed in a pretty dress: for some, it’s a hassle, for others, it’s a necessity. I happen to fall in the latter category. Call me vain, but I happen to like wearing makeup, and that does not change whether I find myself standing in the heat for long hours on set, or when I’m simply sitting in the office all day editing a video.

However, this can be tricky. After all, you’re battling with the long hours of either extremely low humidity levels in the air-conditioned office or intense sweats and harsh UV rays when you are out.

According to celebrity makeup artists, cream and gel products make for the best long hours makeup as they allow for a more natural finish and are easier to retouch; even if they are faded, it still looks natural. Keep it minimal, let your skin breathe and show.

Here are some makeup hacks that you can keep in mind, allowing your makeup to last for a full day at work.

  1. Skin care

Makeup only stays on for that few hours, but your skin stays forever. You can think of it as having a solid soil for your plant to grow in — if your skin isn’t properly prepped and hydrated, your makeup will never look its best. With a clean, moisturised skin, your makeup will last longer as they can easily stick to your skin. Even if you have oily skin, moisturising is just as important, as your body tells your skin to produce even more oil when you are not giving it the hydration it needs.

2. Primer

If you are not using a primer, then you are missing out. Celebrity makeup artist Stephen Dimmick points out that primer prepares your skin and gives your makeup something to hold onto so it lasts throughout the day. Silicone-based primers help smooth out fine lines and fill in your pores, creating a clean canvas for you to work with.

3. Opt for waterproof eyeliner and mascara

Mascaras and eyeliners tend to smudge under the eyes after a long day, especially if you use an eye cream. Change it up for waterproof ones. If they can stay put in water, they can stay put throughout your entire day.

4. Use translucent powder.

Many may see this as unnecessary, however, using a translucent powder does help you to smooth out fine lines, visible pores and roughness. On top of that, they also act as a protective layer against pollution and it prevents your foundation from rubbing off over time.

With all these hacks, you are good to go for your smudge free day!
