Last week, Javier spoke about the 4 realities of being a content creator. And if that didn’t scare you off, and instead only served to make you ground your heels in and pursue this route then we’ve got just the thing for you, fellow creator.

Introducing the Bloomr.SG MCN Accelerator programme, created by Bloomr.SG in partnership with IMDA and Youtube!

Let’s be real and get the corporate talk out of the way first though.

The key objective of this programme is to engage and help talents build sustainable careers in the local media scene. Mediacorp and Youtube aim to provide education & training, resources & recognition, content & IP development and monetization services to aspiring, emerging and established social-first creators.

That’s a lot of words but what it essentially means is we want to foster the next generation of content creators — YOU! Remember watching your favourite OG Youtubers like WahBanana, Night Owl Cinematics and Tree Potatoes and wondering if you would ever be as big as them?

Here’s us asking you: “Why not?

We want you to join the ranks of your favourite Youtubers! But say real one, it’s not going to be a cakewalk and you should be 200% prepared to be committed to it. After all, nothing worth having ever came easy, ain’t it?

Now let’s talk about commitment. (Why does this conversation sound so familiar..? Cue traumatic flashbacks of past relationships)

One major component of the Accelerator programme is the creators’ training that you will be going through. This will consist of a minimum of 12 Workshops across 6 training categories over the course of this year to provide you with hands-on-support. All structured training workshops will be led by industry professionals to ensure that the participants are being taught exactly what they need to help them in their journey to be a successful YouTuber.

The minimum attendance rate is 80% (10 workshops), which means it’s not some course that you can blow off and cram for at the last moment (Cue traumatic flashbacks of O’levels. Why is this article triggering my trauma?!)

Of course, we’d encourage you to attend all 12 workshops so that you are thoroughly prepared and understand all aspects of what it means to be a Youtuber. Workshops will cover topics like video editing basics, collaboration & marketing, content optimisation and Youtube guidelines, just to name a few.

But wait there’s more. You didn’t think that we’d be all theory and no practical, did you? On top of the workshops, you will have to start producing your very own weekly video content for your channel. Trust us, as daunting as this sounds, there’s no better way to get started than just doing it.

It’s like when your parents threw you into the deep end of the pool so you’d learn how to swim! No? Just me? Okay.

Jokes aside, that’s what the Bloomr.SG team and instructors are here for. To guide you and provide feedback, so you’re not just drowning in this 1.8m pool all by yourself. (Enough with my trauma!!)

Now that you’ve gotten through the scary part of what it means to actually commit to this programme, let’s get to the fun part!

As you navigate this journey, we’ll be partnering you up with industry mentors (read: some of your favourite Youtubers) and upon successful completion of the programme, you will be able to submit team pitches to vie for a slice of the S$200,000 grant and be a part of Mediacorp’s capstone project which is to produce 5 social-first content series. Yup, you’ll get the chance to have your work shown across the Mediacorp digital network and be seen by tons of people.

We’re also building up to a final event — the inaugural Bloomr.SG awards where we honour the top creators in the local media industry and you will be a part of that too. More details will be released closer to the date so keep your eyes peeled for it.

Now if all of these sound equal parts exhilarating and scary, you’re not alone. We’re super excited to have you onboard, so sign up for the Bloomr.SG MCN Accelerator Programme here.

One last parting advice, don’t become a content creator if you’re not willing to put in the work. But if you do, it could turn out to be one of the most rewarding experiences you have.
