My 2024 in Rants: What Set Me Off Most This Year
The list was not short
Christmas is now less than three weeks away, which means that it should be completely acceptable to start publishing 2024 retrospectives. Whether it is or not, I’m doing it for my favorite rants and maybe…probably…my favorite Springsteen stories. I’ll hold off on Bruce until we’re closer to December 31st, but I want the rants out of the way now so I can at least act joyful as we approach Christmas Day (which is also a day on which even I refuse to rant).
I would love to say my rants have had a significant impact on the world as I know it, but that would be a lie. While they have managed to entertain a handful of readers, nothing else has changed: book banning continues, my new East Texas Catholic diocese still has no bishop, and there has still never been a Gen-Xer elected either as president or vice-president of the United States.
As with every year I have been on this site, the rants that connected most with readers in 2024 were related to books and censorship, so let’s start with a few of those. The fact that these received the number of reads and comments they did at least means some people still care about this, which is encouraging since it’s likely to get worse before it gets better.
