“The Power Cut” By Dr Aysar Ghassan

Half of me was an egg

when humans first walked on the moon.

But I did get to see the eclipse — everyone migrated.

The birds stopped breathing

when the world came to an end.

There was a power cut last Christmas Day,

neighbours piling out, meat only just started,

neglecting to greet one another.

Burglar alarms ten to the dozen, birds joining in,

rejoicing as The Saviour had just hatched.
