How do you treat yourself?

The stories you tell yourself

I love the English language! What a hodge podge of old words and verses, strung together in syntax, and phonology; merged, stolen, adapted from older, other, languages.

Take for example, the phrase ‘How do you treat yourself?’

That can be taken, at least 2 different ways.

How do you treat yourself? With kindness? Or cruelty?

How do you treat yourself? With a piece of cake? Or peace of mind?

Yesterday I decided to treat myself. To a mug and markers.

I mean – look at it!!! How could I not buy that for myself! It’s got a cat in it!!

Is that not the cutest thing you’ve ever seen?

And I bought myself a gaggle of markers (those words don’t go together; which is the beauty of English. The phrase still works. You understood it).
